The temperatures you were quoting didn't seem consistent with a heating issue. All the same, long term use of Wubi is not recommended. It would be best at some point to switch over to a direct-to-hard-drive install.

I'd prefer to use Wubi as, if I change my mind and no longer want Ubuntu, I can simply uninstall it like any windows application, far less problematic than if I use a disc.

And about ntkrnlmp.exe, the closest thing I can find is ntkrnlpa.exe in C:\Windows\SysWOW64, is this the same thing? The file description is NT Kernel and System.

(no offense or harm intended against any and all candians... except justin beiber i dont like him. did you know hes a dad? he's 17 and he's got a kid. great freaking role model for the young children in this world. i wish he would go away, but eventually the disney music machine will produce Miley Cyrus 2.5 (the first was a robot, not successful as it killed walt disney) on an unrelated note, i like waffles...and im excited for mw3...)

I don't hate bieber. I hate how everyone talks about him all the time. Who gives a crap if he's a dad or cleans his toenails on wednesday afternoons? It's not him who gives us a bad name, it's the thousands of people who care about him enough to get him in the newspapers. >.>

Which I still can't install. Seriously, why don't they just put a zip archive online? Their online installer seems only to work at times when I'm not trying to install.

They did. It's up as a good ol' torrent (though you still need that 'patching' program, at least it circumvents that awful downloader of theirs that I can't get to work either):

  2. Double-click the SetupMTXExtract.exe file and follow the on screen instructions.

  2. Select the mechwarrior4mercenaries.all.to.51.03.01.0017.mtx file and click Open.
  
  3. Click the Browse button in the MTX Games Path window and select the location you want the game to be installed.
     The default location is Program Files\mektek.net. Click Save.

  4. Click Start and wait for the extraction process to complete. The Status line indicates the file being extracted.
     
  5. When the Status window message displays "Completed task" the patch has been installed. Proceed to the next patch
     in the sequence and repeat the process until the last patch is installed.

  6. Start MechWarrior 4 Mercenaries from the desktop icon or Start menu.

  As new versions of the game are released, you can apply the latest patch of the game using this process. 
  Make sure to check the version number of the .mtx file to see in what order it is installed in the sequence.
