Bad news: Our desktop just stopped booting with apparent power supply or motherboard issues.

Good news: My laptop gets to usurp its peripherals, including a 1600x900 monitor and a USB hub, until we get a new machine.

Catching up on Doctor Who. (rewatching season 5 and I think I never saw 6)
My Amazon Prime (Student) account ended its free period at the beginning of the month so now I have Amazon Instant Video perks including lots of free shows and movies in HD.

I'm mid-season 6 myself. Never saw any of them until late last year. Watching on Netflix.

Been thinking about a prime membership as well. Worth it?

Three failed de-orbit burns in Race to Space with the Gemini.
Who builds this thing? I know of Kerbal Space Programs with less accidents.

I don't remember all the perks, but it's indeed worth it.

The American and Soviet liquid launch vehicles of the late 1950s/early 1960s were derived from missile technology. But it turned out that solid rockets were better for military applications.

A student account is $39/yr (free for six months first). A regular Prime account is $79/yr and you can share it with family.
You get free 2-day shipping and cheap 1-day shipping on many things. (has been vital to student life :P ) You should know that buying on Amazon is hit-or-miss, often low quality stuff, and the mark-downs aren't real. (the "limited-time" "discount price" is the only price there ever was) But I still use it often.
If you look at the price of buying episodes/seasons of Doctor Who, I'm getting my $39 worth in a couple days already, with the rest of the year ahead of me.

As much as I have a thing for red-heads (and was in virtual-love w/ Amy Pond), I gotta say, Oswin is a foxy lady (nice legs). My wife even said that she's cute (and she knows what I thought of Amy)...

Thanks, I appreciate the input. I already have Netflix, so I'm getting my Doctor Who fix there. I'm just wondering if there's enough additional content at Amazon to justify the added cost. I've bought several things through them, including many books during my college years. Have never had any issues with them or any of their sellers. Just don't know if I can justify it right now.

If I were listening like that, the previous 3 or 4 rings would have me convinced that the moon landings were faked too .

I suppose it would seem rather ridiculous. Most of our transmissions seem to indicate that humanity spends a lot of time thinking about itself, and not much on the universe around it...

I wonder if an alien species that could pick up our TV program but aren't able to travel here would know our sci-fi stories are just made up or if they really believe we're meeting up with Vulcans, kill foreign diplomats on space stations or terraform moons.

Any species capable of receiving the signals would also likely to be able to determine the physical absurdity of that "sci-fi".

My latest moment of utter stupidity: When backing up a 250 GB drive, plugging the backup drive into a USB 1 hub, and not realizing my mistake until more than 24 hours in.

First earthquake I've experienced, and I didn't even know it.
Was watching Doctor Who, felt my subwoofer going for a couple seconds, realized I was using headphones only, just a bit confused. Before I go to bed, people are posting on Facebook links to information on the earthquake. Only magnitude ~4. Interesting.

Yeah, we usually have those wannabe quakes one or two times a year in Bosnia. Train of thought usually goes like this: "Huh, something's weird... what's that sound?... now vibrations... right! earthquake!... Oh, passed already."
