Pros: Realistic Cockpit Functions & Excellent Textures
Cons: Parachute Problems, Low Sound, & Sound Delays
Review:
Project Mercury is one of the many historical program add-ons you can't miss to download, but Project Mercury has some things to work out. #1: After you deploy the main chute, the capsule swings back and forth and the landing bag is deployed and the chute becomes flat before you hit the water. #2: When I launch, the sound is low and I barely can hear thrust coming out of the engine.(It may be ,I have orbiter sound 3.5) Also, when I splashdown, no water sounds appear.(It doesn't need it, but would make it more realistic) All in all, Project Mercury has some problems, but the realism and textures make that look like nothing. This is why I highly recommend you should download this great addon.

ORBITER 2003? ORBITER 2003? Then that is waaaaay obsolete. No wonder it is invisible!

You'd be surprised, some "ancient" addons still work with 2010P1, while others simply don't have newer replacements.

(Anyone can steer me to a suitable "tether MFD" for 2010?)

I am currently working on a new version of Project Mercury compatible with Orbiter 2010. The Atlas almost works perfectly (I even corrected the chute animation problem). I still have the tower to do and the Redstone stage.

I started (an almost unseen ) thread in the Meadville Space Center forum, here : http://www.ibiblio.org/mscorbit/mscforum/index.php?topic=2654.0 and another one with more details, but in French, here : http://orbiter.dansteph.com/forum/read.php?f=5&i=21680&t=21680&page=0

Free little ad'.

Quick question, how do I get the window to work in the Sim? I have Orbiter2006P1 and orbiter2010P1

I'm curious the status of this. As many of you may not know, I am the author of the panel graphics and supplied the sound effects, as well as giving the Redstone a makeover from rel paint scheme blueprints.

Bueller? Bueller?

Sorry for the necroposting. Just curious to know if this has been abandoned.

A necropost response, but I'm wondering the same thing too. Orbiter is sorely lacking an up-to-date Project Mercury. IMO, in regards to the Redstone and Atlas rockets, I bet a velcro alternative could be made from those meshes, so I'll give that a try.

So basically all I've done is taken the meshes for the original Redstone addon and made a velcro rocket out of it while taking into account the proper dry mass (3125 kg), max fuel mass (28440 kg), Isp (~2107 m/s), Max Thrust (350000N). Not entirely sure if those values are correct as I believe I might have gotten them from different variants of the Redstone, so consider that as a starting point in my research but it was certainly nice to handle a Redstone on Orbiter again. I've still got to find the IspSL for the old Redstone, so if anyone can help there that'd be appreciated. Also added some added bump maps for anyone using D3D9, I'll see if I can make my own higher resolution textures. Will also make and add fairings.

Glad to see something is happening with this. Amazing that the start of US manned space flight is not really represented in the latest versions.

You can include these textures:

They should work with the meshes you are using and it would make installation less of a hassle.
You can also add my Little Joe rocket to your add-on.
You have a boilerplate capsule there that you can use for Big Joe and all sorts of tests. That alone would make a nice "Mercury Test Flights" add-on.

Really looking forward for a Velcro version of these. Not very precise for launch autopilot but really good to launch vessels with attachments or UCGO/UMMU.

If you need something just ask, I have some reference diagrams / photos that I sorted out when doing textures that might be helpful.

Sounds good! I'm working on them right now as a matter of fact, having a little trouble with the Atlas. Redstone is complete. I can't seem to find the empty and max fuel mass of the booster stage, and did all three engines ignite at T-0 or just the two on the booster? Trying to figure out if I should make the booster a parallel stage or a series stage, but being allowed to use some new textures is an added bonus.

You can reuse my stuff. Just indicate it somewhere, so that people don't get confused doing and Orbiter Hangar search. Don't mind if you add some repaint variations, just use logic file names (less texture clutter in one's folders :-) )

I think that all 3 engines ignite at T-0.
But check this nice PDF:
http://www.aerospaceprojectsreview....4/08/Advanced-Atlas-Launch-Vehicle-Digest.pdf
There are some diagrams there with many hardware / launch options. It might help.
