TransX Problem with Transx

I downloaded the lastest beta release candidate of Orbiter which comes with the new transx for the 2009 version. But when ever I get close to my plan for Mars Transx the closes encounter numbers change to 1.XQO or -1.ZQO, and the two dotted lines turn to just one at about 10 o'clock.

So I simplified things. I ejected from earth, waited for my orbit to stabilize and aligned by plain with Mars. I set the date in the scenario to about 20 days before a suitable ejection and double checked everything with the standard Transfer MFD. But I still get the same problem. I moved the ejection date to a couple of days past when I need and started to increase by hypothetical orbit, but just as I got close to the Martian orbit all the closes encounter numbers change to 1.XQO and the dotted line moves to 10 o'clock.

Once this happens it is stuck there and there is nothing I can do to get it to work again short of just deleting the Transx stuff from the scn file.

Is this just a beta issue or am I doing something fundamentally wrong?

P.S. The new beta is fantastic other than that pesky little problem.

You probably need msvcr80.dll in your orbiter folder.
It might be msvcp80, msvcr70, msvcr90, msvcp70 or msvcp90. I have the habit of just slamming all of them in my orbiter dir.

Good catch. Ya, currently you can't target and go to Mars with the latest 2009 transx version. I sent up a bug report to the [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=4261"]transx page[/ame] a couple or 3 weeks ago. Steve's probably going to address it soon.

The 1.XQO or -1.ZQO means that the numbers have probably had a divide-by-zero somewhere in the code or some other NaN (Not-a-number) error. I'll try and take a look at this but I am severely short on time. I'm with my family for Christmas and thus away from Orbiter and a compiler until the 31st, and I fly out to South Africa on the 10th and will be away from a computer for the whole of 2010. If I get time, I'll try and fix this, but can't promise anything I'm afraid.

There is no hurry agentgonzo. I really just wanted to make sure I wasn't somehow setting up an impossible plan. On the positive side it has made me actually work on understanding the physics of the Earth ejection.

Right, I should have fixed that problem. Give the new version a try and let me know if it is still showing problems.
Edit: New version is 3.14.0.3

Flytandem, I can't find the bug reports on the OH site anymore. I imagine that they got removed when they merged the accounts with OF. What was the last bug report you filed?

My brain is far too faded to remember the last report. Probably the Mars bug. I had several reports in between the beta and transx, but only a couple I think were for transx.

Thanks for your work Steve. Hey, enjoy your trip. We'll miss you here.

I'll try the latest TransX when I get a chance. Maybe this evening.

Edit: couldn't wait... I tried 2 different scenarios that I knew had the problem targeting Mars and both are working fine now. (as I jump up and dance-sing "that's he way uh-huh uh-huh i like it" from the 1975 era. thanks steve.
