Hi all.

First post in here.
I am a returning Orbiter pilot and I am a bit confused with the new stuff since Orbiter 2006.

What is better on a Windows 7 and on graphics performance and detail at this moment? To use orbiter vanilla or OVP?

Thanks very much in advance.

Define "OVP"?

Orbiter's "vanilla" graphics, as you put it, is essentially the same thing as the "D3D7 client" as it pertains to OVP. However the actual projects within OVP, like the OGLA client (mostly finished, I think) and the in-progress Dx9 client stand to make significant upgrades to the somewhat old graphics implementation currently in Orbiter.

However, the inbuilt is the most stable. The D3D7 client is perhaps the most stable client, but it's identical to the inbuilt graphics, so there's not much point to it. At this stage, the only really viable alternative is the OGLA client, and that never quite worked out for me and my hardware. YMMV.

As of Orbiter 101016, OVP support isn't complete yet, so saying that D3D7Client is the same as Orbiter with built-in graphics isn't actually true.

Animated base components, like trains and solar plants, either don't move or aren't rendered at all (if you check them in any graphics client).

Thanks very much for the info. For OVP I mean Orbiter Visualisation Project but I didn't know those details of each renderer of OVP.

Which hardware have you? I have a GTX260, OGLA might work better for nvidia than ati or viceversa.

Keep also an eye on the very promising DX9 project that jarmonik is developping. An alpha version is even available.
