Software Orbiter starts to open but closes / dual monitor issue

If I run with only one monitor, Orbiter will run just fine. However, when I restart with the second monitor and launch orbiter, the launchpad pops up (partially blank) and then closes.
I have done all the dual monitor troubleshooting I have found here, using Direct3D T&L HAL, always enumerate devices (checked), display matching resolution, windowed vs full screen. I can only play with these settings with only 1 monitor plugged in, then restart and test with 2, but no luck. Any help would be greatly apricated.

Hi there!
Are you using Orbiter.exe or Orbiter_ng.exe? The second version, using D3D9, is more capable of handling "large" screen resolutions.
 
Isn't the ng for 'no graphics'? I only get a console window when I launch from Orbiter_ng.exe. I selected D3D9 in the video tab but there is no 3D device to select.
 
I downloaded and unzipped in my Orbiter folder, no change, was I suppose to do something else?

Yes, remove all the files it created, and extract them into a temporary folder and then run the Setup.exe file in that folder.
 
ok, I haven't done that yet. but I ran it with the D3D7 and that did the trick. I am still tying to get the best graphics I can get out of the sim & I am not sure if this is it. But I am happy to have a working system.
