Excellent start, kamaz!

Castor, can you please create a dedicated OFSS IV screenshot thread and ask the mods to move kamaz's post there?

Hey Castor, would it be possible to have a complete scenario pack put up now, so those who have missions can practice and iron out any bugs ahead of their launch date?

ASAstra Orbital Aerospace Inc

Dear Mr. Castor,

We are delighted to reconfirm our launch contract dated May 18th for the second construction flight to the OFSS IV station. We confirm our intention to launch within the next 3 days, subject to favorable weather and launch pre-flight checks, and subject to the availability of the components on the flight manifest.

We have assigned the mission to an experienced flight crew, led by Commander ADSWNJ, a veteran of over 100 XR-5 flights to Low Earth Orbit and back.

We will liaise with your technical flight operations staff on final details.

Sincerely,

Andrew Stokes
ASAstra Orbital Aerospace Inc.

Hi Castor - I have a problem with the OFSS.zip scenarios. Using the install script, I get a clean build and the XR5 default Ready for Takeoff to ISS and the Themis-A Cape_2LVs are good.

Yesterday, I cut and pasted your Flight 1 scenario from the OP and that was also good. Today, I'm installing your OFSS.zip and loading the scenarios, and I get a CTD on loading any of your scenarios. On the Orbiter.exe, it shows OFSSIV\Command [OFSS] and .\Textures\burchismo\SBB104.DDS at the point of the CTD.

Can you repaste the code block for your original Launch 1, so I can debug more?

Okay, as ADSWNJ stated, there were some errors with the second upload. I apologize to anyone who downloaded it. Please download the package again and all should be fine.

What is that PeA at the bottom ? Argument of periapsis ? Longitude of periapsis ? True anomaly angle ?

Sorry - Argument of Periapsis - AgP.

But it moves quite a lot with all the perturbations on!

Dear Mr. Castor,

We believe that you have been satisfied with our services during OFSS mission #1.

We are potentially interested in OFSS mission #8, but we would like to receive more information about it before making final decision on the matter.

Best regards,

In keeping with the ball that got rolling earlier...

RE: MIssion 3

Dear Mr. Castor

We are pleased to inform you that our our flight crew has been released for duty, despite the golf cart drag racing event so recently publicized. We must inform you however, that mission specialist Ron Tourney has been relieved of his duties on the flight roster because of the fact that it was his jar of applesauce that initiated the entire event.

We have every confidence in our crew, dark sunglasses notwithstanding, and as our first external client we are looking forward to providing you with the same excellent launch services that we provide for our own "in-house" operations.

Warm regards,
Andrew (Victor) Hugo
Director, Space Operations

We are potentially interested in OFSS mission #8, but we would like to receive more information about it before making final decision on the matter.

The mission basically consists of orbital tugging. The M-II on flt# 5 brings up a partially fueled (about 75%) Tranzit tug and docks it to the station. After docking, the tug has about 60-65% of fuel remaining.

Each tug mission (Flt# 6 and 8) brings up two modules, mounted on a Smerch tug. The Smerch performs the intercept burn, and cancels out relative velocity when at a distance of ~30 km from the station. The two modules are then jettisoned.

At this juncture, the Tranzit tug comes into play. It treks the remaining 30 km to the modules, docks with both of them (it has 2 docking ports), brings them to the station and attaches the modules to the required locations. The maximum fuel that can be used for this whole tugging is 25% of the total.

Mission 8 is also where the Tranzit is used last. So, in this flight, the tug also has to be deorbited into the Pacific Ocean. ~10% of the fuel is required for this deorbit burn.

Feel free to ask any other questions.

Note: PhantomCruiser, the third mission has been released. Download the package from the first page.

Date of launch of third mission: May 30 (Saturday)
Date of completion of mission: June 4 (Wednesday)

Flight notes:

After more than 2 months in free drift, the station's orbit has changed drastically and the station itself might possess some angular velocity. The XR5 shall rendezvous and grapple the station following which the modules have to be so attached as shown in the example scenario. The station must not be integrated.

Following the attachment of the docking port, the XR5 may dock to the station, but crew entry is not permitted (life support not available). The station's orbit has to be corrected by the XR5, preferably with the hover engines.
