It's been a long time since we heard from OFSS III, so I think that it is time to move on with another project. The most notable change between then and now is that IMS has become a lot more stable. So, I propose to start a new series, but this time incorporating IMS, which adds a lot of realism to the experience.

A basic list of missions to be undertaken:

Legend
1) GC : Latest time by which all goals must be completed
2) Launch : Time of launch
3) Landing : Time of landing. Landing must take place not earlier than the GC date and not later than this date.
4) Goal : SB stands for station building, CT stands for crew transfer
5) WIN : Wideawake International
6) CSSC : Carl Sagan Space Center
7) Basic skill : Minimum piloting skills required to undertake the mission
8) DRL : Deorbit, reentry and landing.

Flt#|Vehicle|Launch|GC|Landing|Goal|Manned|Launch/Landing site|Basic skill

The above table of mission also states the minimum level of pilot skill required to fly a mission. If you think you qualify, please reply, stating the vessel of your choice and also which mission you would like to fly (please note, it might not be possible to give everyone the mission that they want). The orbital tug missions (Flt# 6 and 8) are the most challenging of the lot. Every mission will have both a pilot and a backup pilot.

Pilots (11) : ADSWNJ, mojoey, Artlav, astrosammy, Kyle, Pipcard, Athena, kamaz, PhantomCruiser, serolrom, Shifty

Flight Assignments:

Flt#|Pilot|Backup Pilot|Status
1|kamaz|ADSWNJ| Completed
2|ADSWNJ| - | Completed
3|PhantomCruiser| - | Completed
4|Artlav|Athena| Ongoing
5|Pipcard| - | Completed
6|PhantomCruiser| - | Assigned
7|serolrom|Shifty| Assigned
8|kamaz| - | Assigned
9|mojoey| - | Assigned
10|astrosammy|ADSWNJ| Assigned

I look forward to this, I'll tip my hat in for a pilot once the missions get going.

Actually, you know what, can I switch to #12, I'm a bit rusty with the XR5, to be honest.

Done!

But seriously we need to get more pilots, or we have to scrub this whole thing.

Just wondering when will #1 launch, or is the real launch date still in plan? I'm itching to fly again after a month's break from orbiter.

The first launch can take place as soon as the first five missions have been allotted.

So Athena, can I count you in ? If so, which mission would you like to take ?

If no other pilots join by May 20, then I think I'll go ahead and fly the first mission and pass the baton over to ADSWNJ.

Let's all have a crack at flight 1 and see how hard it is (or otherwise!). I'm all for Castor's flight to be the primary, but I'll fly the simulator version of the mission on the ground as the alt crew! It's a shame we can't get a quorum, but hey, there's 5 pilots here that should be more then able to complete the whole mission sequence.

Thanks a lot! I will release the flight package for the first mission on May 21.

Hi there.
I felt that finger touching my heart... :)
I have been considering, but despite I am not new to Orbiter (I can dock the Atlantis to the ISS, maybe that qualifies for some flight as the 'easy level' is about basic orbit operations), I am new to the forums, the way things are done in OFSS, how to configure, etc.
I'll check the flight package for mission #1 and see if I can request some other mission afterwards.
Put that thing up there guys! Even if I don't feel prepared to participate, I'll be watching and willing to do something for this or for next OFSS.

Hi Serolrom - you have docked a Shuttle to the ISS? You already have your full flying wings. You are more than welcome to fly along on this mission sequence.

Here's what I'm expecting ...

Let's set up an OFSS IV sub-forum with a series of threads for initial set-up (downloading packages / problems installing / etc), then one for each mission with problems / hints / tips / tutorials, then one for each mission success (screenshots, scenarios, etc).

I want to make this a great learning experience and a tour of the cool features of new ships and tools, so people who fly all the missions get to feel "I built that" on their own version of the space station, plus "I contributed to the core space station" as part of a mission too.

We're here to support each other as a flight academy class!

I would fly mission 4 if non-spherical gravity sources (i.e. annoying fluctuating orbits) were always turned off. Or if I knew how to rendezvous with a station if they were turned on.

Because if one turns that parameter on, and another turns them off, the periapsis/apoapsis of the station wouldn't have continuity.
