Using Maxwell's voxel global illumination technology, NVIDIA recreates Apollo 11's landing on the moon - specifically the part where Buzz Aldrin gets off the ladder.

Despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, there still exist some people on planet Earth who believe it's the only celestial body humanity has ever walked upon. [...] This deliciously ludicrous conspiracy theory has been debunked countless times, but now its advocates have one more refutation to deny: NVIDIA's Voxel Global Illumination tech demo. It's a GPU-powered recreation of the Apollo 11 landing site that uses dynamic lighting technology to address common claims of moon-deniers, and it's pretty neat.

Read the article

I learned that Apollo suits were so reflective they actively participated in illuminating Buzz Aldrin while he was getting down the ladder.
This is a pretty cool demo, for real-time capabilities, and also proves moon hoaxers wrong (just for another time I should say  ).

Yea, that'll do nothing to convince people who really want to believe the Moon landings are fake.

It actually shows more detail about how it was so convincingly faked

It actually shows that NOW in 2014 we could have faked a moon landing, because NVIDIA (or any other graphics card) has the technology for it.

It shows that using physically accurate lightning models, we can recreate the same exact picture Neil Armstrong took, without any need of artificial lighting.

But no, those who doesn't believe it still will not believe it, but yes, it is a proof that we can use against them.

Nothing will. Not sure why any of you even bother to try. Not sure why any one of you even care.

Exactly. Conspiracy theorists will never allow themselves to be convinced otherwise; they will never allow the facts to get in the way of their opinions under any circumstances. Typically, when confronted with facts, they invent new conspiracy theories to explain those facts away.

Gravity looks pretty convincing, and that was released in 2013 with a budget that is a fraction of the cost for a shuttle launch. Now NVIDIA just made the technology more accessible.

NASA may have been able to fake Mars landings using contemporary technology for years now. What's taking them?

OK, so let's take a couple millions and fake a complete Mars landing in 2020... complete with a cubesat launched toward Mars with an extremely stable and adjustrable frequency oscilator so that we can even fake the Doppler shift from the signal...

No one will ever know...

Except if we fund it on Kickstarter :)

The purpose is not to convince Bart Sibrel.

It is important to try because there are still moderates that will listen to evidence, but have been poisoned by nonsense. Some people will not actively look for the truth, the truth has to find them.

This does a great job of taking a specific claim of the conspiracy theorists and tearing it to shreds.

Good job, NVIDIA!

Headline should've been: "NVIDIA Proves Moon Landings Weren't Faked by Faking Them."

I'm with statickid. This just proves that the conspiracy is true!

But a good punch in the face by Buzz Aldrin might.

The purpose is not to convince Bart Sibrel.

A so-called documentary filmmaker out to "prove" the moon landings were fake who is actually a road raged taxi driver from Memphis, Tn.

I remember a story shortly after the punch incident where he flipped out on a woman in a parking lot because she was taking too long to leave a spot, in his opinion. So he's definitely an unhinged person.
