Nueva York city scenery (Moon)

Nueva York on Brighton Beach (Moon) scenery for Orbiter SFS.
I take a large step back for make this screenshot, the highest skyscraper measuring 1140 meters (3740,157 feet)! A city designed to house 100'000 people in pressurized skyscrapers. Relayed to the original Bringhton Beach base (small tower with six landing pads at the center of the crater) by a magnetic trains.

Tool used:

- Orbiter Base Maker (OBM).

Scenery description:

- A city designed to house 100'000 people, in pressurized skyscrapers.

- One runaway with taxiways and a big tarmac designed to receive big spaceships.

- Six hangars, three landing pads, three fuel tanks.

- One big solar plant.

Needed add-on for the taxiways & tarmacs & routes will appear:

I am struggling, still, to see the utility of a runway on an airless body. Nice buildings, though. More cargo destinations are a good thing.

It's not really a runway, it's a parking lot for Arrow freighters!

Beside the questionable runway, I think this looks really cool. I initially was curious as to why the engineers would build up when there's so much empty space to build out, but perhaps it's to attract tourists, and with 1/8 gravity and no wind to worry about it would be really easy to build high. Overall, I quite like the look of this addon.

Nope.

Really, really, REALLY fast express elevators.

If we look at it in a realistic manner, I would also point out that having space-traffic going on in immediate vicinity of concentrated habitats is not a good idea.

Better to place the landing area some kilometers away from the "city" and connect it with high-speed ground-based commuting systems. Those you can control much better than individual vessels with high-density engines.

But since it is fiction, anyway: nice work!

Agreed. Interesting as a sci-fi design. There's definitively room for that. Some extra work on the buildings textures would be welcome eyecandy. Maybe ads signs, stuff like that... oh and a lunar disco too. Dancing in low-gravity must be hilarious (helmet advised).

A realistic lunar base would be mostly built underground. I'd favor landing pads with aircraft-carrier-like-elevators that can store the spacecraft in underground shelters.

Radiations, meteroids and micrometeroids are serious threats for a long-term permanent station when you have no atmosphere or magnetic field.

Edit : and you HAVE to find a Liberty's statue mesh. I'm sure there are tons of them for free on the Web. That would definitively add a distinctive look to your base.

Perhaps it is mostly underground, and we're only seeing the upper section, tip-of-the-iceberg style. Disco hall should be above-ground though, for the awesome view, of course. Can you imagine taking a date out in the lunar night to dance under the Earthlight? Very romantic.

That is the official explanation of brighton beach: it's underground, only the space port is on the surface

Hello dear Orbinaut's,
The basic idea was to make a tourist town, imagine a base-jump from the highest skyscraper! Regarding micro-meteorites and radiation, I did not mention in the description of the add-on as it is a science fiction city, but if it was to be built that will be with a big 3D printer that making on site pre-fabricated concrete elements with Regolith. They are covered with a Kevlar layer for shielding. There have to all floors of the glue gun for repairs. The people will be equipped with magnetic soles on their shoes. For radiation buildings are protected by a superconducting shield generated by a super particles-accelerator housed in the base of the central skyscrapers.

For more information about future technologies to protect astronauts from radiations, read the two articles of my blog below:

3D printing makes a lot of sense for construction in harsh environments. It's all good.

True, but I have some reservation about base jumping there, especially on the outside.

Bungy jumping could be more fun...
