Project New interplanetary ship in progress

I suggest Atlantis, since she's the first new ship since the shuttle's final landing, and it's a really cool name.

I'd like that somebody download a preliminary version of this ship, oficially called "Long Shot" (I'm sorry, but Faraday doesn't match in my idea of a ship name, and Atlantis could be a little confussing). The file is available here.

If I do not receive significant issues about this ship in 24 hous, I'll upload it to Orbithangar with some other scenarios.

Remember that you need spacecraft3 + patch to run this ship.

I set an ISP of 80000. I know it's too high

if that's in meters per second, then it's not even so overpowered. There are many types of fusion engines that have reasonable expectations of ISPs magnitudes higher. However, they couldn't produce the kind of thrust to accelerate this monster at 0.3 g (more like 0.0001 G, but since we don't have low-thrust navigation tools in orbiter yet, overpowering this is kind of a neccessity...)

apart from that, customizing the specs a spacecraft3 vessel is the easiest thing in the world, so whatever floats your boat is ok. If I don't like it, I'll just edit the ini :P

I discovered that Long Shot is an appropriate name for this thing. I launched it towards Jupiter without any navigation tool, spending almost 3/4 parts of its fuel. Some time compressed ago, I arrive to Jupiter SOI, and used IMFD to successfully insert the ship in a low orbit that crosses the main moons. Nice, but I lost the rest of the fuel doing it.

I suppose that with a more... responsible navigation, Long Shot will be capable to transport all these ships I want to boost to Mars, Jupiter, Saturn or even the outer gas giants; maybe Pluto. We'll see...

Forgot to say that I'm going to add RCS thrusters at bow and stern sections of the ship before the official release. I don't think it's going to take me too much time. I'm now familiarized again with anim8or and Spacecraft3.

See ya!

but since we don't have low-thrust navigation tools in orbiter yet,

Such a tool would open up the possibility to model and fly some awesome near future tech designs.
(Not to mention the Holy Probe and all...:))

Love this "Long Shot" model BTW.

Ok, you win, damned freakies!

LongShot is going to be delayed for one or two days more... :salute:

¡Houston, we have a problem!

All seems to go superb, and I got a functional module fully UMmu compatible. Now Long Shot has 50 seats where people can wait while the ship travels around the solar system. You no longer have to wait inside your little XR2 for weeks.

BUT... when transferring personnel from Log Shot to other ships, I saw I can do it only by docking port 0. It's an annoying situation, because as you can imagine, it will force to maneuver the auxiliary ships to dock them at port 0 (bow port of Long Shot) to transfer personnel.

Some aditional information to solve this problem, or must we resign to this feature?

Do not take too seriously my previous message. Dansteph had the solution in his page. This guy is a genius! :tiphat:

Mission acomplished!

I can go now to sleep. I hope to release all this **** for tomorrow. Sometimes I think that I just wanted a single ship to do a little trip... :hmm:
