The Shuttle will be used forever....until the estimated number of accidents reaches one fatal accident for every flight and all 3 of them are destroyed.
I don't know, the way things are with Russia right now, maybe it isn't a bad idea. That's assuming the 5 year gap stays at 5 years and isn't pushed back past 2015.
