Mission Highlights; This mission was to send a 900 kg's of Nuclear Wast past our solar system, (just because) BTW, I had the dgIV set to fuel consumption to default: ISS & moon (Rules where, No docked fueling)
So obviously, I couldn't get enough speed with the amount of fuel I had, (I also could have docked and got fuel but thats cheating) So I used the Shiny Tank Add-on, to bring enough fuel along.
Heres a few pictures and how it went;
A shot of the payload on the ground;
I got the dgIV1 (dg1(above)) into orbit and docked with ISS, The ISS had about 500 kg's of fuel so I drained about 250 kg into dg1's tanks,
I launched the Endeavor with Shiny tank payload and docked it with ISS,
A shot from the wing of Endeavor while docked to ISS;
After I released the tank from the cargo bay and docked it to the ISS, I reentered the Endeavor;
and landed Successfully;
Then back with the Dg1, Un-docked from the current position, and re-docked on to the tank, Releasing the tank from the ISS, after putting a little distance from the ISS, I started transferring, and burning;
after about 30-50 mins (sorry, no exact time) of steady burning, with turbo pump on, and almost spent the entire, shiny tank, (only 50-100 kg left) but finally managed to get the suns escape velocity, (the entire burn time, I couldnot just let the auto pilot run prograde, I had to manually hold it because of the off center thrust) and then un-docked with the tank and sent the wast on its way;
and turned around to get back home;
It took a while to get up to speed;
So trying to get home, I spent all the fuel to stay within earths gravity, SO, I launched a rescue dgIV(dg2);
I got the rescue dg2 up to dg1's orbit and docked;
And returned to low earth orbit;
I transfered remaining fuel (wasn't much left
) and undocked;
and came home separately,
End result;
BARELY-successful mission; after about 1,786,047 kg of fuel, to get a 900 kg object past the suns escape velocity, after I took the last picture I looked where the cargo was at, and on the orbit MFD, it had an Ecc of .9750 in Suns orbit,
After all that;
Lucky its only a sim (USA would be mad at me if they found out that I spent 1,786,047 kg of fuel and still didn't reach the objective
Of course, I could have just used a launcher or something, but at least it was fun
*Note; I used to have a bunch of smiles with this post but it said I am limited to 15 pics,
