In a big live stream in national TV, prime minister Modi has annouced that India has developed an anti-satellite weapon and has successfully shot down a satellite in 300 km altitude.

There is no confirmation by space debris monitors about the event or which satellite was shot down.

This page assumes that the Microsat R satellite was the likely target of the test. It was launched in January 2019.

How to really annoy an ESA astronaut:

[ame="https://twitter.com/Explornaut/status/1111004457645551618"]Matthias Maurer on Twitter: "Shooting down a satellite to prove you're a space power only shows that you're not. No responsible space power contributes to creating voluntarily space debris! Space belongs to all mankind. Let's use it for peaceful purposes and for the benefit of the people. @esa @dlr… https://t.co/pV4hIAlMxu"[/ame]

Make space more dangerous than it already is.

It's been a month, but I finally got around to this:

A true hypervelocity collision, and not just a poser like those DMSP battery explosions. Look how high those apogees go!

Whoever said that a test conducted a 300 km means that the debris will reenter quickly clearly does not understand how this works...
