Out there...
Has anyone here ever been lucky enough to meet any of the Apollo astronauts? I've often wondered if they ever give talks or presentations about their experiences but I've never been able to find any, have I been looking in the wrong places or is this something they don't do for some reason?

Just don't make Buzz angry. You don't like him when he's angry. ;)

I've met Mr. Aldrin and a handful of shuttle astronauts (usually alumni of either Auburn University, Wichita State University or University of Kansas). They were all very personable and interesting. "Buzz" was pushing his new book in Huntsville while I was at Space Camp years ago. He seemed like a great guy.

I've met a few of the Apollo astronauts, plus most of the recent astronauts (mainly in conferences), and they're generally pretty easy to get along with. If you meet one at a space event just make sure you try and think of something original to say to them. Most probably get the same questions over and over, so if you can think of something a little different they'd probably appreciate it :)
Also, as you're in the UK, keep an eye on the British National Space Center website (as in the space agency), they normally list 'spaceman' appearences in the UK.
If you're anywhere near Leicester Uni (I vaguely remember you being in the midlands) then keep an eye on them too, they generally have one or two visit every month. Mostly to give lectures on their research, so you actually get to hear about what they do. Very cool.

Best of luck!

PS: You could also visit the international astronomiical conference in Glasgow this september. There'll be a bunch of astronauts (although mainly shuttle ones) attending that.

I Have had the pleasure of meeting Harrison Schmit and he was willing to answer all my questions we talk for about half and hour. I also have met Jon McBride also very freindly and interesting.

I met Buzz Aldrin at a book signing, very briefly. He seemed somewhat aloof, but it was a book signing.;)

I've met Story Musgrave, Alan Bean and Gordon Cooper!
I met Beano at a book signing, and my friend Jim Busby, who was coordinating things, was standing behind him.
When it was my turn in line, Busby leans in and taps Beano on the shoulder and says, "This is Chris. He's a good guy."
Beano gave me that trademark huge smile of his, and shook my hand heartily.
I asked him what he thought of Dave Foley's portrayal of him in From the Earth to the Moon, and he said, "I thought he did great! Could'nt believe it, I mean, I'm from Texas, and here's this guy from Canada..."
