NASA's mission to study the Martian surface, atmosphere, climate and magnetic field. Originally scheduled to be launched on the Space Shuttle in 1990, Mars Observer was eventually launched on a Commercial Titan-III in 1992. Contact with the spacecraft was lost shortly before Mars Orbit Insertion.

Add-on includes: Mars Observer spacecraft, Transfer Orbit Stage(TOS) booster and Terra Satellite science instrument test pallet(for Shuttle), historical Titan launch scenario, hypothetical Space Shuttle launch scenario, post launch scenarios.

Hi Derk,
glad you like it :) I remember you mentioned that you were quite interested in some of the earlier planetary missions. Watch out if you use the Titan-III launch autopilot - it needs a helping hand sometimes. BTW, I'm still working on my FalconHeavy project, which would be dead in the water without your expert hard-disk-rescue skills, so thanks again

Works great and works beautifully, and nice touch with the "LOS" of the probe, too!

Hey Brian

Thanks for the look back at what could have been and keeping the shuttle flying.

So it was a payload designed for those "Shuttle/Centaur-G'" missions ? The guys from SSU might be interested ;)

Actually, Mars Observer was always going to use the TOS (not available in SSU). Cassini is one that initially was going to be launched by the Shuttle/Centaur.
BTW, both Centaur versions and the IUS will be available in SSU 4.0, which is due to come out sometime before the end of the universe.
