I don't know why it has a significant impact on FPS, and the other thing is a bit surprising... Intended, yes, but still surprising that IMS realises that the habs are in the shells shadow. Really, I can't quite follow how the code comes to that realisation, but it is correct :shifty:

It is possible to define the shell as the hub and stick the habs directly to it, which should have the same result as the current wheel without a shell. The habs rotating inside still have to be their own module, though.

Anyways, I'll take a look at your scenario now and see if I can find something.

In other news, no problems with Paradineais explorer discovered now that I have all the meshes.

Paradineai, I don't know why it crashes for you, but I can load both the scenario you provided, as well as the finalised vessel.

Since there's an encouraging lack of bug reports, I'm getting my hopes up that this might finally be it... Only the docummentation lacking. Bruce, do you think you'll find the time to wrap that up one of these days, or should I do it?

For the boosters (now that they're finally working): I don't quite know what you don't understand about the booster MFC... it's pretty straight forward. It shows all boosters currently attached, and their status. Status is either "ready" (blue), "armed" (yellow) or "depleted" (red). You can arm and disarm boosters by clicking on the colored rectangle. "Ignite armed" ignites all currently armed boosters, "drop depl." drops all depleted boosters.

It sounds very much like a bad install... lifeboat deck is included in the SwiftSS, but the rest should be there in SSBB4.1B... wait! SSBB4.1 B is an update to SSBB 4.0. If you did not install SSBB 4.0 before you installed SSBB4.1B there might be trouble.

Landing gear: It seems that the msh file is not included in the IMS package (didn’t realized that because I just overwritten the old dll of my IMS install). You can get the missing file here http://www.orbiter-forum.com/showthread.php?p=412363&postcount=400

could the pc be a problem

Only if it has a deffective disk that tends to corrupt files at random... or if it has a virus doing the same. But it would be strange if you noticed the impact only when using IMS, so I'd kind of rule that option out.

Other than that, I can't see how the hardware could have any say in the matter. As long as it runs orbiter, it should run IMS just fine...

Update on my Lunar Station

After installing the RC 8 patch I flew Lunar Station Assembly Mission 109 from Brighton Beach. All went well. I have noticed that the FPS when viewing the station from the outside has improved considerably over the last few RC. I don't know what might be causing this but when I was using RC 3 I rarely had 18 FPS on my current computer. Using RC 8 I'm seeing at least 21 FPS and usually more than 40 FPS.

For those of you who are curious, I've flown mission 109, I've loaded up the XR5 for Mission 110, and I've mapped out the payloads through mission 116. After that I'll probably have about 60 missions bringing up the huge refueling tanks for the docking station 1 side of the station. XR5 can only bring up 1 tank per mission and I need LOTS of tanks. My current estimate is that it will take about 750 missions total to assemble the Lunar Station to Phase 1 complete. Then if I decide to expand it to 3x the population and docking ports of Phase 1 it will probably take another 3000-4000 missions after that.

We will see.

The last photo I posted here was of what it looked like after mission 108

Uhm, PeterRoss, I'm currently fiddling with documentation and general get-ready-for-release stuff, and there's a few things I have forgotten, and while I can look up most of the stuff in the code, it doesn't always seem to make sense...

How much did you say was the most efficient capacity/discharge ratio for batteries? I can't find it anymore, and the equation in the code it's 1/20 (i.e. for a capacity of 1000 kW, the optimal discharge is 50 Watts). Is that correct?

I'm also asking this because I noticed a slight problem with the command modules... it can't run on its own battery, because the discharge is too low. Maybe we should increase the discharge (preferable to increasing the capacity, which would force us to redo the scenario editor pictures)? Otherwise it'll always need additional batteries even when outfitted with solar panels for shadow periods. Somehow that sounds like bad engineering... (of course, the problem was introduced when I changed the default discharge, before that they could run on their own battery).

I read up a bit on the matter, and based on the results and considering how much stuff I'm just ballparking in this add-on, it seemed reasonable to just push up the discharge rate of the command modules so they can actually run on their batteries when the need arises.

I'll use the "ultimate config pack" in your link in the release, btw, with these changes, and maybe some others (there's a crass mass-to-power ratio difference between Gregs solar panels and mine... but that would again influence the darn images. Oh dear...)

This is a playback scn that i recorded im in the middle of building but i thought i would share it. the reason why is because i have a problem and i think it is just my pc. i am only getting 7fps at 1600x900x32 with d3d9. does anyone have any suggestions of how to fix this? Uhm, PeterRoss, I'm currently fiddling with documentation and general get-ready-for-release stuff, and there's a few things I have forgotten, and while I can look up most of the stuff in the code, it doesn't always seem to make sense...

How much did you say was the most efficient capacity/discharge ratio for batteries? I can't find it anymore, and the equation in the code it's 1/20 (i.e. for a capacity of 1000 kW, the optimal discharge is 50 Watts). Is that correct?

I'm also asking this because I noticed a slight problem with the command modules... it can't run on its own battery, because the discharge is too low. Maybe we should increase the discharge (preferable to increasing the capacity, which would force us to redo the scenario editor pictures)? Otherwise it'll always need additional batteries even when outfitted with solar panels for shadow periods. Somehow that sounds like bad engineering... (of course, the problem was introduced when I changed the default discharge, before that they could run on their own battery).

I read up a bit on the matter, and based on the results and considering how much stuff I'm just ballparking in this add-on, it seemed reasonable to just push up the discharge rate of the command modules so they can actually run on their batteries when the need arises.

I'll use the "ultimate config pack" in your link in the release, btw, with these changes, and maybe some others (there's a crass mass-to-power ratio difference between Gregs solar panels and mine... but that would again influence the darn images. Oh dear...)

just to help out a bit. on stations and other vessels NASA doesn't use silicate based solar arrays (heat and cold affect them to much, and i don't remember the type of material used) also all of the batteries that they use are lithium ion packs (just like in your cell phones and laptops) they are at about 60%-80% efficiency rating. each pack is built in a rectangular shape that measures 5.75in/5.75in/23in and have a simple 2 wire plug connector at one end and are rack mountable. each unit runs at 72v (i am not sure about the amps at this time [paper got wet]) this should help with some calculations that have to do with battery power. also the iss has an emergency backup that is chemical based (I'm having problems finding info on that system)

the reason why is because i have a problem and i think it is just my pc. i am only getting 7fps at 1600x900x32 with d3d9. does anyone have any suggestions of how to fix this?

It runs reasonably fast on my end. There's basically two possibilities of where the bottle neck is here.
Try integrating the whole thing. If this increases the framerate, then your CPU must be pretty slow (not to say ancient). I consider this less probable, as there aren't that many vessels in this scenario.

If that doesn't help, it would simply mean that your GPU can't put up with it... which might either be because of too high settings, inadequate drivers, inadequate driver settings or simply the GPU being very basic.

I just noticed that you pepped up the nodes with some support, which is kind of a cool Idea. But defining them as trusses is kinda cheating... trusses can't get damaged, produce no heat, don't eat power, etc.

Here's a suggestion: let's have three versions of each node. One as a dumb truss, without anything, for those moments when you just need a node and nothing else.

One version as storage modules, with supplies,

and one version as a hab module with space for one crew member and some additional battery power.

That could be done really quick of course, the problem is the scened pics. I don't have their source files...

i looked up my pc on the net and found out that the ram shares up to 512mb with the video and win7 needs another 512mb for itself so im left with 1024mb for everything else that im doing (orbiter) then im stuck with pc-5300 ram and a 1.86ghz dual core cpu and its a dell laptop on top of everything i have tried intgrating and my fr doesn't change but it im in cockpit veiw then my fr goes up to about 30fps-40fps (example is my explorer ship) any recommendations for someone that is broke

Yeah, clear case of too weak a graphics card. In combination with Greg Burches modules, which might look cool, but are not economic at all.

Sorry, short of remodelling everything to have a more sane polycount and make use of better textures and normal maps instead there's nothing I can do, and I wouldn't know where to take the time from. The lack of modelers triggered the decision to use SSBB in the first place.

When my (at the time) 6 year old graphics card died a couple years ago, I got a significant improvement in FPS in Orbiter by getting the cheapest video card available that used 'current' technology. I think I spent $50 on the new card. Your video card may be so old that it has questionable DXD9 support. But current technology cards have at least DXD11 support. You may want to try getting a newer (but cheap!) video card.

When viewing my Lunar Station or SSTV vehicles, getting frame rates higher than 10 FPS is really nice. ;)
