New Release Interplanetary Modular Spacecraft RC9

Thanks for the picture on how to setup the ring. I would have wasted a lot of time figuring out I needed 3 units on each arm and a BN-xxx unit in between each and every segment.

If you try this setup on a rotating centrifuge, you'll waste a lot of time anyways. That centrifuge is static, it's the ship that rotates. A rotating centrifuge that connects to the ship in two places is not possible.

It likely won't work at all, although OGLA might work. The issue is due to clients not including Meshgroup transform if I remember correctly.

Which also applies to the OGLA client. Until I make a function that rotates the meshes within the meshes, graphics clients just can't rotate them, period.
Trouble is, I'm expecting some really fun stuff to happen to the animations with a mesh that doesn't have its vertices where they used to be. It'll probably take a while...

I only plan on doing 2 rings (counter rotating on opposite sides of this ship and not connected to each other) , but if I handle the ports correctly, each ring will have enough habitation for 64 people. 2 rings will be able to house 128 people. Which is about the most that my space station is supposed to be able to handle. Now I just have to find room for all those solar arrays I'll need to power them all...

Don't want to disappoint you, but UMMU capacity of a vessel is limited to 20 persons. You can make crew capacity as big as you want, but you will not be able to load more than 20 astronauts anyway. As far as I know this is limitation of UMMU addons itself.
But I suspect there can be a walkaround of this limitation. Arrow has crew capacity of more than 20.

The idea is for the station to have the capacity to have 2 Arrow's docked with their crews on board the station with about 20-30 station crew members as well. I think the Arrow can handle up to 40 people, so 40x2+30 is the minimum habitability that my station will handle.

I don't ever plan on filling up a scenario with that many people... just having a station with the capability is what I'm aiming for.

It might be that this information is outdated, and maybe already was at the time I read it. I did have an IMS vessel with more than 20 crew once, and no problems. Maybe it was outdated information in the UMMU manual I used at the time.

AFAIK, its 40 actually. Its fully possible to store more, but you have to set up a method for holding the crew data internally, and UMMU can't talk to them wwhile stored.

Which would have been a much more sensible approach in the first place...

I think I've found something not working: tha non-trussed RCS engines (/Config/Vessels/IMS/SBB41B/BRCS_ReactionControlSystem_Engine does not work for me.

I made a test station with the minimun stuff to get it working via Scenario Editor with a couple of LOx+LH2 and a single LH2 one (I still don't know wich one is the needed for them to fire at all), and none of my 3 RCS thrusters fired (no attitude changes & no firing animation). Added a trussed one, and that was the olny one that worked.

That happened before again but I thought it was my fault, and deleted .scn & .cfg .

Here are the scenario and the config:

News: when I reloaded last state after posting my problem, all RCS began to work, so it solved itself.

What does this mean?

Good night everyone, here it's 4.30 AM and I need to sleep for a little.

Hello, would someone be so kind as to direct me to a spreadsheet or specifications list, of what each module produces and consumes, as well as how much each human consumes per time unit? I have no idea, for the most part, of how to balance power generation with power draw...

Hello, would someone be so kind as to direct me to a spreadsheet or specifications list, of what each module produces and consumes

That's written on the images in the scenario editor, we don't have a spreadsheet. If you want to make one, that would be cool, but the problem is that the modules' properties are still somewhat subject to changes...
As for consumption, that's somewhere in the documentation, but here it is anyways:

0.84 kg of oxygen,
3.52 kg of water,
0.62 kg of food

It might seem strange why there's so much water and so little food. This is NASA data, and assumes freeze-dried food, i.e. that food contains no water at all. So a significant amount of that water goes into food preparation, not directly down the throat.
Water needed for hygiene is also calculated into the water consumption, so there you have it.

I have no idea, for the most part, of how to balance power generation with power draw...

Why, that is the easiest part... power output must be equal or larger than all power consumed by modules. The specs menu will give you information on what the maximum power requirements of your current vessel are, and every module will show its own power requirements in the module window when you select it.

I think I've found something not working: tha non-trussed RCS engines

Haven't had any trouble with them so far. Note that they're a lot weaker, so attitude changes won't be noticable that fast, and the exhaust won't be as visible (it should still be slightly visible, though).

If I can find some free time from 'studying', I'll make a .pdf with a list of module features. That doesn't seem to be difficult, and might help me improving my LaTeX skills ^^

Also I've thinking about taking all info you've published (the quickguide and the rest) into a single .pdf for includying it into the .zip distribution or something. Obviously I cannot do that now and without your permission.

Ok, let me try a huge time acceleration (but I need to repeat the vessel) and I'll say my results.

Looks like they don't work unless yo exit to the launchpad and reenter the simulation.

I mean: I made the simplest design withthe COG at the end of a truss (moreless) and the RCS non-trussed engine at the other end, for maximizimg its torque. I ended construction, unsealed and made radiator & solar panel start working, and then tried to change attitude pressing 4 and 1 numpad keys. They didn't work. I ended simulation and (without closing orbiter) reentered that simulation. Then they did.

So it fixed itself by reinitialising simulation.

Hope this helps

BruceJohnJennerLawson is already doing that. I think he could use another hand...

That's interesting. Will have to check that...

Here is the spreadsheet I prepared some times ago for my own usage. Just feel free to point me out the possible mistakes or misunderstandings.

In this case I volunteer to help. But I'd prefer to read all this topic (the second half of it) before doing anything, and this will take me for a while.

:tiphat: Wow. I think I've arrived late

The only thing I don't like of this is that it's not categorized for fast-finding (engines, radiators, etc), but you've made such nice work.

That would be greatly appreciated. I have the user guide mostly done but in need of a lot of revision, perhaps you could give that a look, or maybe start into "Spacecraft design for dummies". Do you have Microsoft Word handy?

Excuse me for my awful English. What do you mean with 'handy' exactly? Skilled or accesible?

The reason why I mentioned LaTeX is because it's very easy at upgradeing the text or managing images and wibbly wobbly... time-y wimey... stuff.

Well... Modules are categorized so in the third column (Type). You can easily filter/sort them with Excel or any other spreadsheet software.

Wow, thanks! And yea, balancing the power draw is the easiest part of this...
Does excess power turn into heat or does it magically vanish into the onboard black hole?
