Not quite good example, but whatever: One thinks: "wow, an imitation of space suit, it would be very entertaining to get one", another thinks: "how can people even think about wearing one, it looks ugly and it must be very uncomfortable".

A personal example from O-F: All those ponies, that got to O-F lately -- I don't get how they can be at all entertaining to people who do enjoy Orbiter, but it's just me. :shrug:

What is entertaining to you, doesn't really need to be entertaining to me. I have a friend who likes sportswear clothing, who'd most likely enjoy getting a new model of Nikes, just because they are Nikes, while I don't care that they were just released or even exist.

In any case you don't see people stepping on each other over Orbiter.

You should have seen what happened at my citys mall today. Some people were arrested, and the police had to use pepper spray to calm them down. And about people doing this for shoes, do you know how valuable shoes are to people? At my school, a kid threatened me just because I accidentally stepped on his shoes. I dont understand why people would spend so much money for shoes they might outgrow. :rant:

Personally, I buy $20 shoes, so to me, shelling out $180 seems ridiculous. However, I concede that they're entitled to their opinions so long as they don't insult me because I see otherwise.

However, starting riots is unacceptable. Let those idiots be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

I just see uneducated stupid masses of sheeples here. I would tend to think some of us here have risen above that.

This is important to us, but seems stupid or illogical to a lot of other people. It's narrow-minded pick fun of people just because something like shoes are important to them.

These, admittedly, are not things I am particularly interested in.

This, however, is, and I still don't wait overnight.

My point is that a lot of people do camp out and I'd be willing to bet at least a few members of the O-F community would run for things they hold closest to them, even I would.

But I wouldn't endanger other people in the process, even if that meant not getting the deal. I agree that people in the video and reports went too far, but again, we see this every year and it's just not something we should be surprised or amazed at...

Oh give up the moral relativism already. The fact of the matter is, a $180 pair of shoes has a far insufficient added utility to justify the cost over a $20 pair. There's nothing wrong about pointing out the stupidity of the crowd both in deciding on $180 shoes in the first place, and the acts taken to get them before other people.

Maybe it's the novelty of the brand. Maybe it's the fact they are sought after. Maybe it's just people spending their time and money the way they would like to spend it. The point is that people can choose to do whatever they want to do no matter how absurd it may seem to you or me. Many people that I know consider playing Orbiter to be a waste of time, others have called my amateur astronomy incredibly boring, even though I consider both to be extremly entertaining. It is unfortunate that people got hurt though.

There were shootings in LA over these shoes. Whether those people are crazy or stupid, I wouldn't act like that for a pair of shoes, when the money could be used to buy about 5 pairs of cheaper shoes, and still have money left over.

Agree with you 100%. Here in the United States we have the right to do pretty much anything we very well please. Except deprive others to do as they very well please.

But, that "right" doesn't extend to give people the ability to trample someone in order to get a freakin' pair of (I think) overpriced and hideously ugly shoes.
That's called assault? And in the case of the door being ripped off the hinges, vandalism.

Mmm....Staring at my feet, wrapped in at least 200 bucks worth of mexican leather.
Bought them in a very civilized manner though, you know, like trying them on, walking around a bit, thinking they fit like Cinderalla's glass slipper, deciding they were made especially for me.
First, I didn't had to worry about the next day, half of town wearing the same boots.
