Man it was tuff, thought I wasn't gonna make it again. The camera in the docking port actually worked well. I'm so excited now I can build stations, launch mars missions, moon missions, and use the Shuttle for all it's worth. Thanks for all the help. I now have only enough fuel in forward RCS for undocking. 0.0363% to be exact. It was the launch azimuth all this time, I now will be using 52.60 for azimuth not 51.60. The error is in the AP yeap, it should fly hdg 42 for toff not 43. The realism on the SSU is extreme.

Now if we could only go in the ISS and play around :speakcool:.

Congrats darian on your first docking! I remeber I felt about the same when I first successfully rendezvoued and docked to another spacecraft. Except, mine wasn't the ISS, guess I do everything backwards from the rest of the comunity :P

Wow, so you LAUNCHED AND docked, with ATLANTIS? Cheers, man! :speakcool: That's something I myself am yet to accomplish  Did it with Shuttle-A, but not the Atlantis.

I don't recall autopilot on Atlantis though...

I used the Space Shuttle Ultra, Atlantis addon. It has full lauch autopilot and many other cool features. Try it and you'll get a real good challenge.

Try to get to ISS with default Atlantis (without launch autopilot) - this is very challenging, and when you succeed, it's really satisfying. I managed to do that a few days ago and I am still happy :D

I lost my touch in reundevous. I'm voyaging across the universe to get it back

When I used the default Atlantis when I first intalled Orbiter back in March 05 I used to launch without AP but thats not realistic though, it is a challenge yeah. In fact I used to leave it on for Synch orbits, align planes and I was able to dock with ISS easily but not realistically, ;);).

Congrats, I haven't done this with the Atlantis yet, but I have already made dockings (funny word lol) with the XR5 and the DGIV.

I have docket allot of times most recently with the 2 space station components my xr5 was carrying but I have never Docket Atlantis to the ISS

I just use Rendezvous MFD now. I sync with the target manually, and the autoburn gets me within 1km. From there, I just use my RCS. I only tried this with the XR5 and the DGIV, but it should work with the Atlantis too. Watch the fuel gauge though. I don't see much point in manual Rendezvous, and with Rendezvous MFD, I don't bang my head on the keyboard as much as I used to. (I can get into orbit and get synced nicely, but I HATE THE RENDEZVOUS)

Rendezvous MFD is here: [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=1199"]Rendezvous MFD 050621[/ame]

what do you mean by sync ? get in the Rinc to around 0.2 ?

Here is what I mean:

Well for me, syncing with the target is that once your RInc is ~0, you use the Sync MFD to get within 50 km range of your target (you should be able to see it too). After that, I use Rendezvous MFD to make my approach.

Oh yeah, and I managed to do a night docking the other day. I'm making a space station, and I launched the PMA and the Nebulus truss support module (from Mustards site) into orbit with the Energia. Since I hate maneuvering with the DM-2, I released the two and approached them with a DGIV to tug them to the UNSS space station core, which was already waiting. I made the Rendezvous and docking at night, barely relying on my instruments (Docking MFD got me on the right track, but didn't help in the final approach.

I completed my mission, only to realize that the Nebulus turns the WRONG WAY when I try to dock it to the UNSS, and the truss would end up offset by 90 degrees. My response *banging head on keyboard*: :censored: this :censored:ing space station!!!

Congrats. You always remember your first docking.

Nicely done, buddy. That's something I'm yet to accomplish (but, then again, I haven't "orbited" in ages. Must do soon).

Now for the re-entry :)

Well, I can safely say I got my touch back. I did it with shuttle fleet this morning!

First dockings are always nice. I docked to Mir with a launch autopilot on the DG-IV once. It were nice.
