Hi folks, hark here.
I started my amateur development hobby 4 years ago. Not long after finding Orbiter and enjoying it, I also found this really simple tutorial on how to make a flying saucer in Anim8or, and BOOM! I was hooked from that point!
(Probably a good time now to thank the guy for his tute, it kinda changed my life, as I have put in thousands of hours into this hobby now, and enjoyed every minute of it. Thank you Harmsway, or eharm, or whatever he was called, for the effort of sharing some rudimental knowledge, keeping it simple, and causing my much-loved addiction to modeling my own stuff for orbiter, and subsequently Microsoft Flight Simulator.
I graduated to developing my own futuristic stuff for Microsoft FS, and spent years getting good in Anim8or, then refining texturing and animating techniques in Gmax. (.3ds imports into gmax nicely, but triangulates the mesh, and sometimes some extra smoothing is required to minimize mottling.)
Just recently, I had another look at Orbiter after being away from it for years.
Grabbed the 2010 edition, and the first download I got was this incredible capitol ship by Jon Marcure, the Manifest, I believe it is called.
This model blew me away, it looks astounding in Orbiter, and inspired me to fire up Anim8or and seriously start work on a large gunship.
Anyway, nice to be here, I'll be begging you all for info momentarily in the main forum section. Burning questions!!!
See you there...
