Hello. I'm Jacob.
In short about my experience in Orbiter:
first try was with v.2006
after msfs and flightgear one friend of mine recommended me orbiter
yep, atmospheric flights and nothing special
then reading manuals, and... and i liked it
...LEO, maneuveres, first successful docking... yeah, that was exciting
then orbiter was abandoned
few weeks ago i'm back and reached the moon with transx
(interface of which i found very difficult to use)
now i can't get to red planet
so wait for some annoying questions

You can use TransX to get to Mars, but it won't be very accurate, so do expect some mid-course corrections.

IMFD's dV + Map program combination will get you to Mars accurately (without any mid-course corrections if you disable radiation pressure simulations in the scenarios!).
