This is an impression of the Earth after a catastrophic global warming incedent. it is a version 2 release which greatly improves on the surface textures of the V1.0 relese. including more vegitation around new coastlines and ice-free parts of Antarctica and Greenland. It also has much smoother coastlines

please report any bugs.
Happy Orbiting!

Please, if global warming is true, tell me how the past 4 winters have been so oddly freezing, and how, in northern Wisconsin was sitting at -75 yesterday.

It's called "climate change" now.

For the billionth time; Global warming has to do only with global average temperature, which is going up. This does not mean that local temps will never be lower than normal, especially in the middle of winter, in a storm, and/or in northern Wisconsin.

And by the way, this thread is for comments regarding the quality(or lack thereof) of the Add-on. Political views belong in the Basement.:)

This add-on looks interesting: I've DLed it but haven't got around to checking it out yet.

Aeadar got it in one. Climate change is actually making weather simply more extreme. Places like Wisconsin and northern Michigan will generally get colder, and places like Florida and California will generally get hotter, storms will be bigger, and rain will be heavier. It is merely the AVERAGE TEMPERATURE of the Earth that is rising. bigger storms and heavier snow is a bi product of this.

I did not create this addon as an environmental 'message' so to speak. I am actually of the school that believes that climate change is real, but will not be anywhere nearly as 'apocalyptic' as many people believe. I made this addon because I was designing a future solar system complete with a teraformed Mars and Europa, and a partly flooded Earth. In this world Europe, Russia, and the US have built water-breaks to save their land from flooding, but other countries were not as wealthy, so couldn't. I uploaded this without this aspect of the back-story, so that people could do what they want with it.

weather patterns

the reason for the coldness is because of two things
#1 there is a 20 - 25 year pattern of cooling and warming for the whole planet
#2 there is also a 75 year cycle of the magnetic poles of the sun flipping which we are currently in the middle of the period when the poles are changing so the weather is a little more extreme and in about 5 years it will reach the peak point before settling

Is this your map?

I kid, I kid.

FWIW, winters in Florida have been ridiculously above average for the last 4 winters. And hurricane seasons have been actually extremely weird.

But can we comment on the addon instead of this subject? Unless we all want to experience the might of the banhammer. :P

Please discuss the "climate change" in the basement, this thread is for add-on feedback and add-on related discussion only.

If it gradually flooded the land over a year or so of in-game time, I might be tempted to download it. Those ISS missions just got a little more important :)

As a matter of fact, yes, it is.

good idea

Any far future scenario would not be complete without a changed Earth like this. So thank you for this impressive addon.

It seems that you picked one of the worse climate scenarios with a sea level about 70 meters higher than today. As far as I know, this can only happen if all the ice of the south pole melts off completely. So Antarktica should be green, as well as Greenland. (Quite possible within 500 years.)

Did you use a particular conture line for your new coastlines or have you made them free-handed?

In the scenario description you wrote:
I like to think that even if Earth looks like this in the future, we will be able to redeem ourselves by terraforming mars, or at least colonising space...
Well, I don't like this way of thinking. Even the Sahara or the peak of Mt Everest are very comfortable places compared to anywhere in Outer Space! It's a popular and dangerous illusion to think that humans could comfortably live in space. Survive for a while yes, but not live for a long time and under humane conditions. The best thing about space travel is that you can return to Earth. Many astronauts have told us so. We should always keep in mind that, even with the best technology, Earth is not replaceable.
