On December 31, 2009, former NASA Astronaut Gordon "Gordo" Fullerton (ALT, STS-3, STS-51F) suffered a “massive stroke” while under anaesthetic for throat surgery.

He was taken to UCLA Medical Center in L.A., where he will remain for at least another two weeks.

He is reportedly responding “on demand”, i.e. if he is asked to hold up a certain number of fingers, he will. He is also giving a lot of “thumbs up”.

It is hoped that he will make a full recovery.

My thoughts are with him & his family, and I hope you can join me in wishing him a full & speedy recovery.

It was only about a year ago that he took his last flight. God bless him and his family.

Bummer news. I saw Gordo in Palmdale a few weeks ago when a group of us were all attending a performance of www.passingzone.com . "Gordo" allowed me to take him hang gliding back in '97 as part of a NASA flight exchange program. He knew I had an interest in spaceflight and comped me a copy of a shuttle landing simulator after his hang glider flight. He's a very kind and polite man. My hopes are that he sees a full recovery quickly.
