The ground compressibility experiment was rendered useless by the camera optical cover jettisoned earlier, which came to rest precisely where the compression probe was deployed later... The probe's reach point was fixed in respect to the lander so no option of sampling the soil a little to the left or the right...

Yes, that specific *part* of the mission was *quite* a failure.

EDIT: They did get compressibility data on their lens cap though...
