The Proton M/Breeze M integrated launch vehicle carrying the EchoStar XVI satellite has been erected on a Baikonur pad earlier today and Day 1 operations have been started at the launch complex.


Subject to the ruling by the Governmental Review Board, the Proton M/Breeze M Integrated Launch Vehicle has been rolled out of the Fueling Shed (where the Breeze M low-pressure tanks were loaded with propellants) to Launch Complex.
The ILV was installed on the pad and erected. Then, after the service tower was rolled up, Khrunichev in collaboration with other space-industry companies proceeded to carry out the operations per Pad-Hold Day 1 Schedule.

The launch of the Echostar XVI satellite is to take place on November 20.

Ok, I've no talent anywhere near Galactic Penguin SST's to make a launch report really entertaining, but here it is.

The EchoStar 16 mission will be the 10th Proton launch of 2012, the 382nd Proton flight overall, and the 3rd in the row after the latest failure of Briz-M upper stage, which happened on August 6th.

EchoStar XVI is a high-throughput satellite using an SS/L 1300 platform to deliver broadband solutions to consumers, businesses, and government customers. SS/L said the new “geostationary satellite employs a multi-spot beam, bent pip Ka-Band architecture, providing significant additional capacity for HughesNet service in North America and will augment the SPACEWAY 3 satellite system.” The company also said the satellite will be using a new JUPITER high-throughput technology that will help provide access to 100 gigabits of capacity per second.

The ultimate plan is for this new satellite to expand Internet coverage and focus on specific areas that are in need of more broadband services. The satellite will have a multi-spot beam capable of specifically targeting these areas and improving them.

Didn't know that the Russians are using the Progress spacecraft as a tug for delivering communication satellites to such a high orbit!

Why not ? A bit inefficient, though :lol:
