Oh yeah. It wasn't too bad in 1988, but even today I doubt much has changed. I do remember seeing a newer revision of the "Comm Rack" where the communications modules were mounted. The mounting assembly was the same but the modules on it were 1/2 the size of the original. That antenna (beer can on a stick) was (is) a directional C-Band tx/rx, and there is a UHF antenna on one of the vertical stabs.I doubt that the airframe itself or even its engine has ever become obsolete, but the electronics of that time looks of course pretty antique today.![]()
I enjoyed working on the RPV, and liked most of the guys I worked with. The leadership though.... toxic. Really soured me on the USN.
In opposition to that, my last command... 180 degrees difference. LAMPS squadron with an SH-60B (HSL-44, the Swamp Fox). My OinC retired a few years ago as a 2 star. If I'd worked for him at the beginning of my career, I'd probably have been a lifer.
