Just as the title says. I am curious how many people visit other forums? I don't mean Orbiter-related forums, rather any topic not related to Orbiter.

  • How many forums do you have an account on?
  • How many forums do you visit on a regular basis?
  • When you visit a new forum, what usually gets you to register and potentially post?
Finally, out of all the forums you have visited, explain what bugged you the most about the ones you felt were the worst forums.

I've only been active on one other forum than O-F. However, particular registration for that forum came about due to membership in an online role-playing group, so that was my "incentive" to join. I don't visit much anymore, however. As for what bugs me the most... typically the trolls. ;)

EDIT: I also lurk the Questionable Content webcomic forums, but not sure that counts since I'm not registered or planning to.

I used to be an RPG forum whore, and I had strings and strings of rather unsuccessful ones. O-F is the only place I'm currently active, but I spent years on GameFAQs (until I realized how depressing my particular social board was) and a while on Giant in the Playground.

A few political forums, and I used to moderate a couple of gaming sites (anyone remember gameshark and Dex Drive?)

You guys are all making me look bad.

I would seriously have to spend a little time tallying up how many forums I have an account on.

orbiter-forum.com & ubuntuforums.org

How many forums do you visit on a regular basis?
1 :P

When you visit a new forum, what usually gets you to register and potentially post?
I only registered ubuntuforums because I had a question and needed to use the search tool or some other function that was locked.

I like how the colors here are easily broken up so you know whats a header and whats text and whatnot.

I have-not seen a lot, but there is one forum I really loath
experts-exchange.com/
Mostly because it blocks the other comments, but alas that's how it makes money. Its annoying though when you are searching using google and it shows that site as the only good hit.

As I said above, I don't frequent any other forums, but I must be registered for hundreds of other forums I've accumulated over the years.

Five that I visit on a daily basis, couldn't count how many I've had accounts on.

You don't give us staff much time for using other forums :P

EDIT: Seriously though, I have accounts on many forums but none that I use regularly.

Personally I have 6 forums I visit on a pretty regular basis. Most daily, some a few times a week. I'm also an admin on two of them. I don't post as much as I am active on the forums since I generally don't have the time to compose a worthy post. The site's that I am most active directly relate to my work on this site, but other forums I frequent cover everything from other PC games I play to various other hobbies.

For me, my participation on a forum has a large part to do with the activity and atmosphere of the site. If I visit a site that has information I need, but has a bad atmosphere - then I generally get what I need and leave. Sites that have a good atmosphere and active discussions are always a draw to come back on a daily basis to participate.

  • How many forums do you have an account on?

Quite a few, Falcon 5 site, 3000ad, Pprune, a DIY site, several for work purposes such as HP.COM, techrepublic.com and linkedin.com and some that I've forgotten about!

  • How many forums do you visit on a regular basis?

All except O-F are on an as needed or on as reminded basis

  • When you visit a new forum, what usually gets you to register and potentially post?

Generally the need to post is the need to sign up, e.g. if I have specific problem or something I need an answer to I'll sign up so I can use the forum and ask the question.

It's already been mentioned but the requirement to sign up to get access to some forum features like actually reading a post or using the search. I don't even mind using Captcha's for a search but to have to sign up to get an answer to a question so that the forum can then spam me (with ads for PC's in HP's case) annoys me to the point I created a special devnull account which holds mail for three days (long enough to get the activation mail).

How many forums do you have an account on?

Many, many forums. Too many to count!

How many forums do you visit on a regular basis?

Probably four or five. I live at Gwlad Rugby, a Welsh rugby union forum.

When you visit a new forum, what usually gets you to register and potentially post?

I'll probably see a post that makes me angry or frustrated, and I have to register to put my point across!

Often, though, I'll find a forum for a topic I'm interested in, lurk in the shadows for a bit to see how everyone interacts, then join in if everyone is behaving. The forum has to be well-moderated and there shouldn't be childish arguments every two posts! I like interesting debate, but debate has to be conducted in an adult manner to keep me interested!

Finally, out of all the forums you have visited, explain what bugged you the most about the ones you felt were the worst forums.

The worst forums are the ones where, as mentioned in the last point, people are arguing and name-calling, and there is no moderation.

The title could do with some corrections: first of all is "teh interwebs", not "the". I don't have many accounts because it could clog it up. You know, teh interwebs is a series of tubes, not a big truck on which you can just dump things.

How many forums do you have an account on?

I think this are many. I don't know all.

How many forums do you visit on a regular basis?.

Only Orbiter-Forum realy active. Sometimes x-plane.org.

When you visit a new forum, what usually gets you to register and potentially post?

Sometimes to download something that you only can if you are registered.
Or when it's something that interests me.

How many forums do you have an account on?

I lost count, a while ago.

How many forums do you visit on a regular basis?

Around 5-10.

When you visit a new forum, what usually gets you to register and potentially post?

An interesting conversation I feel like I've something to add to, a product/service I use and want to discuss with fellow users, or just the sight of someone being completely and utterly wrong.

It's hard to resist.

Finally, out of all the forums you have visited, explain what bugged you the most about the ones you felt were the worst forums.

Elitist forums where the entire user base consists of people with 5000+ posts, everyone has a negative attitude towards new users, posts and the forums have ridiculous restrictions like 1000 posts before you can use PMs or see some parts of forums. These kind of boards tend to be 100% spam, anyway.

How many forums do you have an account on?

8, I believe.

How many forums do you visit on a regular basis?

SC4 Devotion
Simtropolis

Active Posting: 4
Orbiter-Forum (no link... you're already here)
Rag Tag Fleet forum
Diseased Productions Forum
SimCity Central (the site is all but dead, but if there is any activity, usually I'll post something)

When you visit a new forum, what usually gets you to register and potentially post?

Either if I have something to say or if I feel I've lurked enough.

Finally, out of all the forums you have visited, explain what bugged you the most about the ones you felt were the worst forums.

Newbie hating, flame wars (though sometimes fun to read), and spamming.

I have accounts on several forums. Theology, politics, emergency medicine, etc.

I want a good discussion and an active membership in a forum.
