Hey guys, what do you believe, do you believe in other primitive life forms, non-primitive life forms, only humans, or an divine being. I like to know what everyone thinks.

Only humans?

My pet dog would have argued with that one. If she could talk, that is.

I'm guessing you mean:

* other primitive life forms = simple bacteria, sponges, etc... out there in the universe,
* non-primitive life forms = more highly evolved life forms (with bodies) out there in the universe,
* only earth beings = no other life out there in the universe
* divine being = a life form of some description that is (mostly) outside of the universe

In that case, I think it's unlikely that there is NOT primitive life out there. I think it's possible that some primitive life has evolved into more complex life. I don't think that we are the only planet with life, but of course, there's no evidence of any other life out there as yet. And I don't believe in a divine being of any kind.

I forgot to put both Primitive beings, non-primitive, and a divine being. I hope were not alone, the thought of passing by and saying a casual Herro on the way to Vega will be nice for the moral for a very long journey.

I absolutely don't think we're alone out here... as someone said: "The Universe is big, really big, you may think it's a long way down to the chemist in pouring rain, but that's just peanuts compared to the universe"

Not even a peanut, if you had a grain of sand and you cut it up into 100 peices then you pick out one of the 100 and you cut that up into another 100 peices and you pick out one of them, thats a trip to the chemist;)

existing outside of earth doesnt necessarily mean divinity. i truly think there are visitors already here, with an intent that has very negative effects in store for humanity.

you can either spread the message that humanity isnt alone, and that the universe is a tough place with nasty hive-minded beings with multi-dimensional agendas that WE as humans MUST be aware of and know when we are being force-fed influence.

or you can just do what they want and be amazed by them, be dazzled by their flashy technology, and be totally willing to cooperate with your new "gods".

i find it takes a breathtaking ammount of ignorance to believe that only our planet holds life, complex or otherwise.

Ah yes, the late, great Douglas Adams...

If we say the aliens are cruel by frying one of us, look what weve dont to our animals are we any better?

A better comparison is how humans with better technology has caused widespread destruction of native peoples whenever they have discovered a new country, whether intentionally with weapons, or accidentally by introducing diseases for which the natives have no immunity.

An alien race with better technology could visit earth and either wipe us out in order for them to form their own colony here, or come with peaceful intentions, but kill us all anyway due to whatever bacteria and viruses they are carrying.

i find it takes a breathtaking ammount of ignorance to believe that only our planet holds life, complex or otherwise.

I wouldn't call it "ignorance". There's a very good chance that life exists out there, but we simply do not have the evidence for it as yet and we don't yet know how life began here on earth, so in fact, not believing that life exists out there is the more rational belief.

Who says "aliens" would have more advanced technology than we do? Who says they ought to be hostile?

If they are able to visit us, they certainly have more advanced technology than we do. And they don't have to be hostile to wipe us out.

But you are right in that if they are NOT visiting us (and I don't think any of them are), then they may not have more advanced technology than us. And if that's the case, and we find them, then it is quite likely that we will be the ones to wipe them out.

this is a very great online book (link is to chapter 1) on the very subject of hostility. its a bit of a long read, but from the perspective of hostile alien intentions it really exercises your thinking...

allies of humanity

I believe in a Divine Being (namely God) as well as intelligent life outside our Solar System.

If I believe Earth is flat or not, will it make a difference?

Oh come on. Don't you read self-help books? If you believe in yourself and create positive energy, your whole life will be perfect.

In other news, I can eat candy and poop emeralds.

Its weird how non-primitive is higher than primitive on the poll.....do 4 people beleive in complex alien life but not more simple alien organisms? Theres this thing called evolution:dry:....

I will take my belief of life elswhere in the universe to the grave with me, but the odds of it becoming intelligent seem slightly small, so I believe most life in the universe will be primative life like reptiles

I haven't voted in this one, just because anything I vote wouldn't accurately show what I believe. I obviously believe in life on Earth, and I don't believe in a God, however the question of life elsewhere (either intelligent or otherwise) is hard to say. I won't say that I believe it exists, as there is no evidence that there is life elsewhere, but at the same time there is good evidence that the formation of life is fairly easily (on a galactic scale).

i know this is of topic but this is to piper.
