It is desktops like this where it becomes apparent how basically no one understands the desktop analog. I hope your actual desk is covered with stuff you aren't currently working on, so at least it is consistent.

Note how there is nothing sitting on my desktop, because I am not currently working on anything that doesn't already have a permanent home on my HDD. My taskbar has pinned applications I use constantly, and my start menu has moderately used applications pinned there. Now if I download something and it isn't going to stick around long term, etc, it will sit on my desktop until I am done using it. Much like you (should) use a real desk!

Have to agree with this. No current temporary projects, so the view is unmarred by icons:

A modern OS presents so many ways of organising that it's almost difficult to clutter the desktop without trying. :lol:

The icons are there for easy access, and are for reminding me about these projects (or any programs used to create these projects), even though I might not be working on them at the time. If I want to start working on a project again, or use Inkscape, why should I waste time clicking through more folders just to get to those files?

I can get to any of my ongoing project folders within five clicks - the file explorer in Windows 7+ allows pinning folders to its icon. Right click -> go anywhere in local storage. With libraries, you can go to several of these folders at once. All without covering up Miku's vacuum-exposed face. (Hope she's doing alright with that, by the way. :shifty

It also saves time if you don't clean your room at all. But some can't live in a littered environment.

From one of Loru's dev posts I think. What a marvellous source of desktops we have on this forum! :lol: One downside is that I keep stopping to rub the dust off, but it's actually stars...

I've never really used desktop shortcuts for files/folders as since year dot I've always shared computer accounts with Mum/Dad and so have kept stuff in my personal sub-folder of My Documents. That then becomes a slightly more boring version of a desktop, complete with shortcuts, random screenshots, text files, .tmp files......

Ah, so she's like Batman. BTW, do you happen to have a link for the source image?

If you have to find the folder in a soup of icons, I'm not sure if it does save time.

I found the image through Google Image search (it was a repository of anime wallpapers) and cropped it, but one of the tags said "saberiii" (good thing they credited the artist), and that led me to:
