Project CST-100

I don't see why we couldn't go ahead and get all the textures and meshes together to put together a beta release on OH, if N_Molson feels his Atlas fleet is ready for that possibly.

if N_Molson feels his Atlas fleet is ready for that possibly.

Not right now ; I just recovered from two weeks of intense and counter-productive summer heat and a screen failure to make it better, which explain my recent inactivity.

Maybe what you can do is to send me the files ; and I'll make them available through the ftp storage garyw is providing to us until end of October.

I'm going to get back into the AtlasV, the 400 series are not far from completion ; what I'd like to add are mostly :

- Helium tanks management (limited number of restarts), with the possiblity of carrying the "extended mission pack", which consists in more helium tanks (more restarts), better insulation, a second RCS tank and a more powerful battery to extend the Centaur operations up to 12 hours (at the cost of some dead mass).
- The single-engine version of the Centaur (requires mostly modeling).
- A re-model of the SRMs.
- Custom sounds.
- Some payload adapters and fairing types.

One that will be done, the AltasV will be ready for a first release allowing all the combinations from 401 to 432.

After that, I'll do the 500 series, the "Heavies", and if it goes smoothly, maybe some vertical assembly allowing a "graphic interface" to build the rocket in-sim (basically you would enter a code like "412" and it would spawn the rocket, then you would have to select an adapter, a fairing, and adjust the payload(s). By the way the very sympathetic thing with the EELVs from the developper point of view is that you can reuse 95% or more of your stuff from a version to the other.

I think ky mentionned the 25th September for a first release, maybe we could try to stick with that ?

Atlas V EELV alpha v0.42

New feature :

- Centaur engine(s) restart limitation, and simulation of He pressurization tanks. Basically you need helium a tank to pressurize the main tanks :P 2 restarts allowed (as in real life AFAIK).
- Scenario files have been updated (there is one more tank (n°3, index "2") in the Stage2 section).

Umm.... quite a few launches used a 3-burn profile for the Centaur (and even those missions with 2 burns needs a third burn to dispose the Centaur). Can you change it?

EDIT: Oops, I misread 2 restarts as 2 burns! So we are in agreement.

Yes, my source are ULA documentation so it's very unlikely they are wrong :tiphat:

I got Sketchup Pro, which allows me to convert to .3ds now, and Im off on a 3 day weekend, so I'll have time to work on the CST. The Service Module is 100% done, the Capsule is at about 75%, and the VC at 50%, so there isn't much work left.

Ok, we're about 1 week away from a beta release of the Atlas package. I believe we are at a point where we can start working on coding the SM and CM, and save the Interior for a later release. The SM and CM are complete, and ready to be coded. I don't know if the SM adapter needs to be remade, but I think we can work with it for now.

"Real life" matters made me quite unavailable during September. Now I'm back though. ;)

Launch delayed to 15th October (realism, realism !)

Update : OK, I did a disk transfer this summer and it seems that parts of the projects were incorrectly backed up. Mostly I lost the source files from the "launchpad vessel". Not a complete disaster, but it could add some delay, as I have no other option but to rewrite it entirely (and make sure it will be compatible with the surviving parts of the project). Also lost the "fairing" source code but this is a minor issue that will be easily fixed.

The most severe loss is the first stage guidance program, that was in the launchpad code. The very positive thing is that the rocket configuration code is in the first stage part.

So no despair, just need time to re-engineer things.

Update 10/05/12 : Some positive news, as I managed to "rebuild" the basic functions of the launchpad (holding the rocket in place and launch it). Now the guidance part remains, but I think I'll write it in the first stage code, that will be more convenient after all. Also the lights & cameras, but those are not a big deal to code.

Okay, I didn't see it. I just saw it posted on NSF today, and I thought it might be new info. Looks easy to mod. Also, is the Atlas V launch still on schedule for today?

Its fine, and I haven't talked to Molson in a while, and he set that date, so I cant confirm if he is still releasing today.

It's still in the works. Pretty overbooked those days, but I'm on it.

Update 20/10/2012 : the launchpad re-building* is on good way. Once the vapor particlestreams will be restored, it should be as functional as before, with an additionnal "COUNTDOWN x" option, where x allows to set the countdown duration in seconds. Then I'll have to re-write the Stage1 guidance program.

*For reminder I lost the launchpad code source this summer (and unfortunately, it included the Stage1 guidance).

Update 21/10/2012 : launchpad rebuilt and cleared ! Next step : Stage1 guidance program.

Something I just noticed while testing the Atlas V with Orbiter Sound, the adapter between the 2nd stage and SM is missing.

Yes, I noticed it too. That's in the "minor works" category.

BTW, could you send me the last CST mesh ? I'd like to try to integrate it, and begin to write a stub module for it.
