cool. This may save me a lot of work, as Tmac requested some sort of elevator to get us over the rim of chaomengfu crater in the Iron Hill Project. now I can hopefully just pack this, the crater rim assembly it hooks onto, and an elevator box all into UCGO boxes to carry on discovery. How stable is it at this release?

I would say very stable. The length should be around 50M. If that is long enough you can connect more than 1.

Universal Grappling hook. It was a joke idea from a little while back born from an idea of catching spaceships straight out of orbit with one or something.

Well this one might be long enough for catching objects pseudoorbiting small asteroids. Actually, come to think of it, if you attached a decent mass at the end of it, it might make a decent anchor...

This is pretty much ready fro realease. But should I make it so the crane only attached to certain id's? The reason would be so you could add an id to a UCGO crate and it pick up on the top rather than the bottom?

Does this support two-body tether physics?

I saw the title of this thread, and for a moment thought you had written something about my ex wife.... *badump-bump* (see, my last name is Crane, so, yeah....)

Seriously though, very cool idea. I've been into helicopters in FSX again lately, particularly the sling load tutorial. I think this is needed in Orbiter. Great job!

I don't think so. Basically it is an attachment point that goes in the y direction and using scaling the animation is scaled to follow the length of the tip.

I might add you need to add an new id for it to attach.
