News Christie Candidacy Would Cripple Romney

Unfortunately this myth has become "fact" somewhere along the way. Gore did beat Dubya. The election was first hijacked by Florida, and then handed to the loser by our Supreme Court. If the recount had been allowed to happen, Gore would almost have guaranteed a win unless the Electoral College wanted to risk a Constitutional Crises. Even with Nader running, Gore had more popular votes.

Every single source EXCEPT FOX says the same thing.

The scariest part of this is the Supreme Courts decision, even with the dissenting commentary. I invite all impacted to actually read the decision - Scalia's conclusion is terrifying. Apparently, we not only have no Constitutional right to vote, but any election can be canceled for any reason. No a good sign for democracy.

I agree with all of that - and will also say that there is fairly good evidence that the Bush admin "tampered" with computer voting in Florida (and again in Ohio four years later).

Yet the only reason that was enough to get Bush into office is because the results were fairly close to begin with. If Nader hadn't run, most of the people who voted for him would have voted for Gore, and given Gore a big enough "lead" that tampering in one state couldn't have been enough.

The supreme court scares me - especially Scalia. But I'm also scared (and enraged) that there was no real concern for the massive vote fraud. No real investigation, and no consequences for the guilty. They cheated and completely got away with it - meaning it will continue to happen on even larger scales in the future.

I've always felt that the worst effect of Jr's presidency isn't the wars he started - it's the Justices he placed on the Supreme Court, who will continue to "haunt" us for decades to come.

The supreme irony here is every single honest political analyst agreed if Gore had actually gotten into the White House, he would have retaliated against Afghanistan even sooner than Dubya did after the Sept. 11 attacks.

In my most cynical and paranoid moments, I suspect that the 2001 Supreme Court decision really gave corruption license that hadn't been there before. Sure, there's always been corruption in government, but it's been the exception to the rule. With the 2001 decision the tills came flying open and those with access dove in to get theirs.

The 2001 decision was nothing compared to last year's, which effectively removed any limits on campaign contributions. Exxon's entire yearly profits can legally be dumped into PACs if they so choose. If you ever doubted the Supreme Court was as partisan and corrupt as the rest of the government, you can put that belief to rest.

I'm convinced that nothing will significantly change until every current member of the Supreme Court and every current member of Congress is dead of old age and Reagan is completely gone from living memory. Let me point out the fact that the vast majority of Congress are incumbents that have been there for decades pushing decades-old ideology. Until they are ALL gone, nothing will be permitted to change.

And yes, I share the opinion that voting third party is useless. If Nader hadn't split the vote, we all would have been spared the nightmare of the Bush administration. If two candidates split the majority of people that want progress and improvement, the crazies that want to impose regression and fundamentalism will win.
