This sucker.

Yeah, this is pretty much a joke.

Wow, for something that big you think they could find better escorts than F-4s.

In the 1960s there was no better escort. Of course, since the OP wasn't kind enough to tell us what it is he is asking for, we don't know if the Phantom is capable of keeping up with it.

I expected some scoffing and a 'hey, that would be funny.'
Yeah, I have no idea why there are Phantoms in the picture, considering the F-22 had been invented by that time in that fictional universe.

It's pretty much exactly what it looks like: a big huge space plane. If you're wondering, it's from the PS2 game Ace Combat 5 (It may have had a different title in Europe, I don't really know), which is as you may know a 'semi-realistic' combat simulator game (which essentially means "Yeah, we thought planes were cool but didn't really want to research how they flew or fought with each other so we made this awesome shooter instead"), so it's hardly realistic.
It was used as an orbital weapons platform capable of aerobraking to change its orbit (thus the starnge but aesthetically pleasing shape), and carried a chemical laser for destroying asteroid chunks after an in-universe collision threat was barely averted. It doubles as an orbital weapons facility capable of attacking ground targets.

Essentially, I thought I'd post this because it looks frikkin' awesome and the idea of diving into the atmosphere and firing lasers at submarines kicks ass, but the thing hardly serves a practical purpose.
:P

As it is, I believe it's possible to directly import the model. I saw a video somewhere or other a while ago of someone flying this thing in X-Plane. No idea how he got the model from a PS2 disk onto a PC and into CAD, though.
If someone could maybe tell me how to do this [at least how to export it from CAD into an Orbiter-compatible format (.msh I think?)], I could try it myself.

Ah, I don't have 3DS Max.
Ah, are there any good freeware 3D modellers out there?
My ancient edition of AutoCAD isn't going to cut it. Hahah...
(Still a total noob here)

You use blender. But i don't know if that has the ability to import from .CAD and export to .MSH.
You could always send it to me.

Argh. It's not even in CAD format.
I'll send you whatever it is that I do have, which is apparently a model for FSX. Maybe you can make more sense of it.

Hi Izack,

don't know how good this works on CAD-files, but you may try "3D Object Converter" (http://web.t-online.hu/karpo/). It is just a converter, but it seems to support lots of formats....
