It's been a while since the last post about this, but there's a reason for that: not much has happened. My computer's gone bonkers. I'll probably have it back up to speed by next week, but by then I'll be focusing on school.
In the meantime, an update on what I did manage to do before the screwup...
After thawing on-time (with one anomaly...) and accurately performing the braking manoeuvre, the crew has been busy unpacking and building the myriad things that they brought with them (probes, surface equipment, transport vessels, additional habitation, scientific equipment, etc.) Captain Walker has performed his duties admirably, keeping the vessel and its crew running smoothly.
The vessel headed directly to Ups And d, while probes were dispatched en route, headed for Ups And c and e to explore their moons.
Now, nearly 18 months have passed, with the colonists spreading outwards through the solar system. The speculated habitable moon Ups And d I (now referred to as Hyperborea) turned out to be a frozen wasteland bereft of oxygen, necessitating pursuits in terraforming. Mining facilities have been established on the more metal-rich moons of the system, as well as gas-mining facilities in the upper atmosphere of Ups And d (By convention, the four planets of Upsilon Andromedae have been named after the four Anemoi; d was named Boreas, the north wind.) The vessel that brought the colonists has separated into its components, with the majority of the main vessel now serving as a dedicated shipyard in high orbit over Boreas.
The probes have returned some disturbing images. Frighteningly similar artificial-looking objects have been reported on the surface of Boreas III, and in orbit around Eurus II (second moon of Ups And c.) While the colonists are waiting for further information from the probes before panicking, a rumour is spreading that during their interstellar transit (which took fifty years for them but far longer to the rest of civilisation due to time dilation) other ships overtook them, although there has been no sign at all from either objects of human presence or remnance...
Oh yeah, and River Crab, I was lying: I am working on a short story for this.
Pictures!
Insertion.
Probe departs.
An eclipse, seen from the observation deck.
A view from one of the probes. It looks like a TIE fighter cockpit, eh?
Another view of the stack. Notice that one of the smaller ships has detached and left for Hyperborea.
More vessels have departed. Foundry is seen here entering orbit around Ups And d VII. You can't see them for some reason, but it has landing pods which will become mining stations. They're the pods from Ragtag's Sydney, so they're pretty big.
