I encountered a rather interesting problem recently.

I've been hauling components up to my station and at one flight, I encountered a CTD via "send/no-send" error. It was occuring at random moments I tried to access the main HUD of my craft (XR5, but that's irrelevant).

It happened at every single restart of the scenario and I managed to narrow the possible cause down to the Align Planes MFD. It seems the crash only occurs if the MFD has no target set. When it does, I can freely switch between panels and view-modes, but when it does not, the program will crash at a random mode-switch.

I did a new install of Orbiter, just to make sure none of the mods interfered with the MFD and it seems they are unrelated, since the completely virgin version also showed this problem.

Every other MFD seem to work flawlessly.

I even tested the beta version and that works fine as well.

Orbiter.log sometimes lists a few lines that says:

**** WARNING: Mesh not found: .\Meshes\.msh

But I'm not convinced they are related, since it's looking for an unnamed mesh and why would the MFD use a mesh anyways.

If I recall correctly, this is a known issue, and has been addressed in the beta. In the meantime there are steps you can take to avoid this. Be sure AlignplanesMFD has a target before pressing F8 if it's open. Ensure it has a target before saving a scenario if it's open.

Also, I think there is a difference in the way Orbiter handles saves versus quicksaves. It's best to avoid quicksaves in vessels with panels, perhaps in general. I pause the sim, and use the save function in the scenario editor. This also let's me give the scenario a distinctive name and leave myself notes for when I come back to it.

i get the same problem and its not just me its also one of my other friends i was telling him what to do over voice chat to get to the moon while i was doing it along with him and it just crashed on both of us when we opened align planes mfd

Glad to hear it's a known issue and not just my computer acting up. I can take preventive measures, just wanted to make sure. Thanks guys.
