Hmm... So ive been meaning to post the results of my space station building project a while ago and i just now got time to do it.
I submitted this February Friday the 27th to the
NASA and NSS space settlement contest for high school students. I used all these images plus some other ones i didn't feel like posting in a 61 page document that was typed over the course of 1 week. I was going to attach the original submission, but it was clearly rushed and i think its slightly embarrassing...due to all the errors that i made and scientific omissions and other stuff. The odds of me winning are slim to none.
Im going to post the original models in a couple days just in case anyone wants to make a simplified version into an addon or use it for artwork. The largest file was over 9 million triangles was about 46Mb.
If anyone has any questions about how it functions feel free to ask.
Ok...So here it is...
THE IOC
Inhabited Orbital Complex
The IOC has a radius of 209m and makes a rotation every 1.85 seconds. It provides a gravity of 0.8G. It is divided into the central core and the inhabited ring. It is powered by a small (D-D)fusion reactor located at the blue end of the central core.
Food is grown in the orange section.
Below are the two types of modules that make up the inhabited ring. There are 64 modules total...8 Intersection modules and 56 inflatable transhab-like ones. The modules are held in place by a composite lattice. Radiators are attached to the edge of the lattice.
Here are the various support craft that supply the IOC with materials. The CPB(common propulsion bus) is like lockheeds jupiter space tug. It can dock to a number of utility modules that perform tasks like capturing comets or drilling into exo-lunar ice. The CPB is a Water-Fusion Nuclear Thermal Rocket.
This is the the Surface Mining module.
This is the free flying module. It wrangles small comets or ring objects.
This is the pressurized transportation module. It carries people to the surface of moons or between separate IOCs.
Here are some "scenic" images i made.
This is the IOC with Titan as the backdrop.
I choose Cerian orbit, Callisto orbit, and Titans Lagrangian point as the locations of choice.
Here is my screenshot of the largest model.
