Author: cizurator

Cizurator presents a fictional WW2-era double-seat fighter, created exclusively for Orbiter Sthpace Flight Simulator: Aero A-242 of the Czechoslovak air force. Although it never existed, it's supposed to be a rather realistic warbird, that is fun to fly at the same time. It's based on Vinka's spacecraft3 (included) and features animated controls, landing gears, flaps, canopy and propeller, as well as custom sounds. More detailed info can be found in the README file. Works well in Orbiter 2016 as well as previous distributions.

October 9th Update: added missing  file spacecraft3.cfg into the package.

Interesting ! I'm currently searching for atmospheric planes to explore Earth's "new" terrain, and the best airplanes to perform scouting are fighters : fast, agile, good ceiling, short landings and takeoffs. So that one could be a candidate to venture through narrow valleys.

Now I also need a jet turbofans + afterburners able to cover a great range at high speed (up to M2.5 or even M3), while staying agile enough to explore the interesting terrain features. The F-15B would a good candidate, I think, as you can use it to ferry quickly two 'nauts from point A to point B. Or a Sukhoï equivalent.

Exactly this is what made me to create such a plane :thumbup: Agility is definitely one of the advantages here. It is also quite fast and climbs well, but only within the limits of late 30's (max. speed at 6,000m is 490 kph and climbs 15m/s).

I can recommend any of the numerous addons by Kev Shanow in Orbit Hangar!

Looks great ! You know what to try next :lol:

Well, the concept of a "Czechoslovak air force" in the 1940s is a bit, let's say...complicated. Really only existed in the RAF (and perhaps VVS).

However, I think fans of the Il-2 series will find the concept of a Czechoslovak WWII fighter interesting. Il-2 has a lot of content dedicated to the Czech/Slovak perspective...on both sides. Anyway, what you have here is certainly more "modern" than the Avia 534 biplane (which I like in Il-2).

Yes, you're right. In reality of 1940, there was no more "Czechoslovak air force". There were only exile Czechoslovak pilots in the ranks of Polish Air Force, French Armé de l'Air, RAF, some pilots of German nationality even entered Luftwaffe. After Czechoslovakia was dissolved, many of our pilots scattered across Europe to find a way how to fight the Germans.

Before the war, Czechoslovak air force was already outdated. It relied on slow B-534 biplane fighters. Introduction of modern monoplane fighters was delayed - the promising B-135 was only in prototype, when the war begun. The A-242 is a what-if plane, that curiously expands the interrupted Czechoslovak aeronautical development.

Congrats!
Nice little plane but if you don't have Spacecraft3 installed already you're in trouble cause Spacecraft3.cfg is missing from .rar file :facepalm:

Tweaking a bit

I created three config files Aero_A-242.cfg, Aero_A-242_1.cfg, Aero_A-242_2.cfg.

They have the format:

Code:
;Aero_A-242 number 2

ClassName = Aero_A-242_2
Module = Spacecraft4
EditorModule = Aero_A-242_2
ImageBmp =
Help=

Notice that it points now to spacecraft4 instead of spacecraft3.

Then I made three copies of the INI files using the same names.

Now they appear in the scenario editor and I can have three planes of the class in the same scenario.

Then I added the following lines to the INI files:

Code:

The first "H2OK" child attachment is for the carrier script I will upload soon.

The "B2SP" attachments are for my Bombsight MFD addon.

The "G2PR" attachments are gun racks for my Gunship MFD addon. In a test scenario I attached four Invisiguns and all 20 shells to them . This is firepower!

Thanks a lot for this excellent addon!

These are some very good ideas for further development! I'm glad, that you've picked up this opportunity. I have never planned this as a naval plane, but i can't deny, that i took some inspiration from british Fairey Fulmar and Fairey Firefly fighters. I could create a naval camouflage for this plane. Nevertheless, i dare to have several comments regarding the visuals on the pictures.

The wing-mounted MG's seem to make unnecessary big flashes, reminds me of this picture of IL-2 firing 37mm guns.

Please, consider that the four wing guns are supposed to be small-caliber MGs. The main weapon is in the propeller hub - the 20mm Hispano Suiza HS404 cannon - that's where the biggest firepower is.

I suppose the meshes of bombs and pylons are taken from some modern aircraft. I hope there's a chance for changing the meshes a bit (i could provide them), because those are most definitely modern Mk82 bombs. The pylons are a bit too prominent, i'd prefer to shrink them, so they look more like this:

Good work though! I'd be pleased, if we cooperated more closely!

I agree with you with everything you said.

It just happens that BombSightMFD and GunShipMFD are generic addons that should fit any plane (or spaceplane operating close to surface). They are presented mainly as an user resource rather than a ready to use addon. So, I must be as generic and frame rate friendly as possible so I went for generic weapons with simple meshes ( I quickly did them all myself using Anim8or.).

Off course they are not the ones that should historically fit in the Aero.

But the code for the bomb is ready and creating a new one with a new mesh, new pylons is almost straightforward. I loved the black color and the "fat" shape for the bombs you presented. The same with the guns although the 2016 version for the GunshipMFD is overdue and I must work on it first. Maybe in the future we can issue an "Aero Weapons Pack". Your plane certainly deserves it.

In the meantime, despite the anachronic visuals it is fun! I did a dive bombing on a tank today that showed how much your plane is fit for an addictive technique perfecting practice.

I can't engage on it right now but let's consider it for a midterm project with can include the rear gunner gun as a GunshipMFD "turret" mode gun.

The more you say, the more i feel provoked to make some more planes :hmm: A medium bomber, maybe? The czechs already had a nice prototype, Aero A-300, but I'm not good at re-creating things. I would probably go my own way again.

I would feel honored to cooperate on such a project!

Aero A 300

Please Do It!!!!!

I love planes I can sit in as passenger, relax, leave the piloting to AP and just gaze at the passing landscape. I used to do it a lot in CFS3 and now, with the enhanced terrain view in Orbiter 2016, it would be nice to have planes with several observation points as we have in the A 300 ( turret, ventral , bomber , tail )

I also loved the almost round tail fins. :-)

It might take a while, till i get started. And yes, the round tail fins are a treat for an eye! I might incorporate them in my own design. I always prefered double-fin design anyway.
