    The Universal Flight Simulator

Little update on the external HUD: @JDat and I (mostly @JDat!) keep polishing the surface HUD. Some symbols added (velocity, vertical velocity, altitude, AoA, G-force, Mach number, gear down indicator), but they are static (hardcoded) for now. Pitch, bank and azimuth angles are working now...

    Project Blender Mesh Tools add-on

Hi guys, Does anaybody know what's causing that issue when trying to import mesh file (see attached)? Tried on blender 4.2.14 as well as 4.5.3. The result is the same. I got success in importing the default ISS mesh, but not the default shuttle.. TIA.

    The Universal Flight Simulator

Hi guys! Fresh quick updated straight from the JDAT's lab, looks like data connection between Orbiter and the external "symbol generator" is working! All data transfered over ethernet using Orb:Connect. Not all functions are implemented yet of course, but it is a huge milestone: Again...

    The Universal Flight Simulator

Hey guys! Long time no see haha Finally real progress has been made building the HUD. Both hardware and software-wise. For later I cant thank @JDat enough for his valiant effort for creating an external HUD script to run it on raspberry pi. It's not just a copy of the Orbiter generated HUD on an...

    Question ORB:Connect with Arduino

Hey guys, Finally have started to play with software side of things of my Simpit and to learn more about programming and networking. My question is how to make Arduino receive/send commands from/to Orbiter via Orb:Connect plugin? My connection is as follows: PC with Orbiter -> ethernet switch...

Hardware Image disappears from monitors but backlight is still on

Good shout, but my setup has 2x monitors and both of them blank out in the same time. I'll check them with my laptop anyway, just in case. BTW, I've tried to swap cables and ports, but the issue still appears. I've ordered a new GPU (GeForce 4060), it should arrive tomorrow, will see. Anyway...

Hardware Image disappears from monitors but backlight is still on

After all those unsuccessful attempts to find a solution I'm starting thinking the same thing.. too bad I had tossed all my old pc components, I would've been able to swap the GPU just to verify it is indeed the culprit.

Hardware Image disappears from monitors but backlight is still on

Hi guys, Last week I've started getting very annoying PC behaviour - when you load the GPU even slightly (watching youtube videos, opening new windows, working in CAD programs, etc.) an image just disappears from monitors, but back light is still on. The PC itself freezes almost instantly...

    The Universal Flight Simulator

Hi guys, Progress report 2024-W42-48: Slowly getting HUD ready got the pit. Last weekend got a successful test of LCD+backlight+optics+combine for the fist time. Very nice visibility of the projected symbology even in direct sunlight. Still working on pcb's for the unit. PS. Sorry for blurry...

What music are you listening to?

Yep, Mike P is back in the game! Love this guy, he is a true rock'n'roll soul of DT. As far as I remember he's confirmed his great come back autumn last year. I'm feeling sad for Mike Mangini though - seems like they [Dream Theater] have fired him as soon as Portnoy accepted their offer.. Oh well :)

    The Universal Flight Simulator

Hello everyone, Progress report 2024-W41: 1. I've decided to use as many electronic components from original HUD electronics as possible. There are a lot of top notch capacitors, op-amps, transistors, etc. which can be easy implemented in my circuit design plus it will cut an overall BOM cost...

    The Universal Flight Simulator

Hey guys, Progress report 2024-W40: Backlight PCB for HUD control panel is finished. Ready to be ordered. I have started to fit my custom PCB in existing Power supply enclosure for the HUD. It took me 6x tries until it fit perfectly, and all mounting holes are aligned. The main issue was that...

    The Universal Flight Simulator

Hey guys, Progress report 2024-W39: Revised HUD control panel is ready to suit larger rotary switches. Mounting hole patterns were optimized. These parts are 3d printed for prototyping purposes. The final article will have laser cut/engraved parts made of 3mm thk Perspex with thin (0.8mm thk)...

News UK ends coal powered electric generation.

TBH, it's sad to see those big mills bite a dust.. We are talking about being environmentally friendly, but all we do it's just shutting down our local industrial giants (kicking out thousands of workers as a part of a course) and outsource all that “dirty” stuff to eastern Europe (or Asia). I...

    The Universal Flight Simulator

Hey guys, Progress report 2024-W38: Developing and prototyping of HUD control panel is still on going. Results are satisfactory. Minor design modifications required. Selected rotary switches have not sufficient rotational torque in conjunction with d30mm knob. The article to be replaced with a...
