    Here's some more pics on the new nozzle/throat design. I found this great PVC fitting, a bushing, that would be for connecting 1.5" PVC with 1/2" PVC pipe. The hole in the bushing is about 7/8" wide. By gluing and placing 2 washers in to form the throat, and using hydraulic cement to form...

    your funiest misconceptions about space

    If this was the case, i'd go to space alot more often. The Challenger accident happened in 1986 when I was 5. Apollo was obviously before my time. I vaguely remember seeing videos of the capsules landing in the ocean and thinking that the capsule parachuted the whole way back from the...

    Orbiter Remote Control

    A work in progress. This remote application will connect to an orbiter simulator across the network to provide External MFDs and Remote Vessel Controls. Some functionality will be slightly limited. This is an experiment in do-ability. So far, I have the Parent Window with Menu Bar and...

    First flight training hours...

    I remember my first flight lessons too... I also had a problem when I told the instructor I already had logged 1,200 IFR hours in the simulator. The rest of training was a breeze. I was able to pretty much skip any type of ground school and progress to solo time pretty quickly.

    Maintain at 104KM Alt +100m/s vertical speed approaching MECO, MECO when PeA = 42km. This will land your ET in a safe spot everytime. It's good to be space junk friendly even in the simulator :-)

    afxres.h in VC++ 2008

    The problem here is that the free version of the C++ compiler does not come with MFC which is required to compile vessels that have a custom panel. Anything with a .rc or Resource file won't work here, you need the full version for this.

    Bush: worst president ever

    That's debatable. In 2000, Al Gore actually won the popular vote, but because of the semantics of our electoral system, and a vote recount in Florida that was questionable at best, Bush got to be president. In the 2004 election, he didn't have any real competition. He should have been beaten...

    Reading the acceleration

    This won't return the same value displayed on ACC on the surface MFD. ACC only shows horizontal acceleration. Enjo's forumla will show acceleration provided by the thrusters, but doesn't account for deceleration from drag, and does not show strictly the horizontal acceleration. I don't...

    N-Prize

    I wouldn't approach it this way, I would lift a rocket with the cannon on top. The rocket+cannon would accelerate to close to orbital velocity, say 1/2, or 3/4ths. Then wait for apogee. The firing of the projectile would be the final orbital insertion itself.

    N-Prize

    I'm not sure about the feasibility of a balloon start from extremely high altitude. Even by avoiding the thick lower atmosphere, the task still remains to get the required ~7.7km/s velocity for orbital insertion. This is still going to require a massive rocket, which would mean a balloon...
