ORBITER-FORUM will be temporarily closed at 2026-07-23 18:00 UTC while we complete some OF maintenance tasks. The amount of downtime is expected to take up to one hour, but probably less.
So blocking air traffic with your (admittedly pretty) debris trail twice a month is FONSI now. Huh, I wonder where that came from...
Then again, I guess if they keep doing that with every launch, even spaceX will be out of business pretty soon.
New update out! Now comes with the actual parameters of the starting spacecraft intended for the game. Also, there's a Codex page now. There isn't much in it yet, but I'll be adding some background info on the world with each release from now on. This months featured entry is about the Great...
Nah, didn't finish that one. The quality of the art is... yuck. The Mechs are nice, but if the people look like they jumped out of a Bioware RPG, it's really off-putting. I prefer the art of the originals in that case (not that their plot was much more coherent...).
Watched the first 3 episodes of moonrise. So far, nothing makes any sense whatsoever. I'm left wondering again what exactly the criteria are for a Netflix show to get funded. But obviously "you have a script that respects basic logic and causality" is not among them.
If coded properly, no, neither of those two.
This will mostly depend on the local configuration. The add-on needs to run a server either in the orbiter plugin component or in the MFD process (intuitively I'd put it into the orbiter component). I'd expect that server to require a port...
Why would that not be sensible? It is a very convenient way for two processes to exchange information. Nothing is actually going through "the network" if the routing can be resolved in the machine itself.
Somehow hacking a procedural terrain generator into the data input stream of the terrain renderer? Now that Orbiter is open source, it would even be possible, but it's a huge undertaking in and of itself. Artlav could probably tell a merry tale or two about that...
Why, there's a blast from the past... I never published the source code because it was essentially Baby's first C++ project, and built on several hacks. So it was a royal mess. You wouldn't have much joy porting it even if the source code was still around. Which, in all honesty, I am not sure it...
Wait, they're doing another one already? If this goes on, it's gonna be worth adding "sunny with a chance of spaceX debries" to the bloody weather report!
Minor update, finally introducing other aspect ratios than 16:9, and a couple other improvements:

New devlog, outlining a bit what the features are going to look like that I'm currently working on...
I'm not sure where that number is from, I couldn't find any mentions of chamber temperature in the paper.
P.s: It does seem to be the lower end of the combustion temperature of aluminium.
Spherical should be fine, I think. I like the looks of spherical tanks. Yes, I know that's not the most important thing... :p
After a quick back-of the envelope using 4 tanks and a tensile strength of 450 MPa (should be possible with an aluminium-titanium alloy, both available on the moon. Will...
Hmmm, ufortunately my tank volume for the LOX would be about 12.4m³ without ullage (though that would hardly all go into one tank), so I guess that would add quite a bit. Will have to run the numbers on how much.
Yeah, venting anything that doesn't absolutely need to is pretty much off the...
