    Request Artemis landers

On the textures: Currently bigger parts have a coarser texture than the smaller parts. You could adjust this to be more uniform by modifiying the size of the U-V maps. I think this would look more consistent, because the Kapton (gold) foil does not know if it is wrapped around a big or small...

    Request Artemis landers

Yes, thrust looks good. The final hover thrust (just before touchdown) was around 50%, which is a reasonable throttle level. For information, the braking burn from Lunar orbit in this scneario starts with 40% fuel. It is assumed, the other 60% are used by the Lander during its TLI burn, Lunar...

    Request Artemis landers

Also played around with an alternate gold texture, for the wrapping. The dds files are attached, if you want to try them. Maybe also the size of the mapping around the model should be bigger (not so fine divided), so the wrinkles are not too small and show approximately the same 'grain' over...

    Request Artemis landers

A very nice lander! Took it for a spin to land at Ukert crater. Landed with 3.5 ton fuel remaining. Orbit scenario is attached. Some comments: - Better make the model center near the mass center of the vessel. This gives a better look when panning around the vessel. (Currently it is on the...

Vessel Commerical LEO destinations and other space stations

Good Point, that the Solar panels and radiators may collide when angling independently. Maybe the simple solution is to Just let Thema Stick Out straight, and only have them rotated to track the sun.

Vessel Commerical LEO destinations and other space stations

Tested the NEWAXIOMPPTM1.1. Nice! Some impressions: The RCS thrusters seem a bit strong now. I would think they will rather use 100 N thrusters, acting in pairs or quadruples. You might consider an aft view, for docking with the rear port, switching with the [E] or [C] key. Example...

Vessel Commerical LEO destinations and other space stations

SpaceX has made a large fairing for DOD payloads of the FalconHeavy. This is well represented in BrainJ's FalconHeavy addon. That fairing is long enough even for the biggest payloads.

Vessel Commerical LEO destinations and other space stations

Could you please have a look at the "AxiomPPTMNEW1.cfg"-file included in the axiompptm1.zip? I think it is the old cfg-file. The actual shall refer to the dll-module: Also a question: Is this the correct docking / berthing node I am showing in the screenshot below? (Sorry, I am a bit confused...

Vessel Hermes Spacecraft from The Martian

When I read the book I was totally thrilled on the realism that Andy Weir packed into the story, and still wrote an absolute page-turner book! With the formulas on the Atomic Rockets page, I tried to draft a concept of the 'Hermes' as a nuclear-powered, ion-driven vessel. I collected the...

    OHM HTV-X

Maybe compare the exhausts to the CrewDragon RCS exhausts, both in Orbiter and real footage. In Orbiter a combination of static flames and particle exhausts is used to simulate the exhausts. Thrusters Firing in space by SpaceX's CRS 25 Dragon

    OHM HTV-X

On the long RCS plumes: Reduce the lifetime in the particle definition. Usually a few 0.x sec are sufficient. The length will still vary with fps and time acceleration settings. ______ Also, do not use the exhaust velocity as v0 of the stream. While this would be theoretically correct, it is...

    OHM HTV-X

I think, that would be a good solution. Some vessels use the 'E' Key to switch between forward and aft view. With the inversed RCS we can probably live.

    OHM HTV-X

This is a very cool addon! The gold and silver foil textures are the best I've ever seen in Orbiter! Maybe you could disclose how you made them, how specular and normal maps were created. I flew a docking approach to the stock ISS and realized, the cockpit view is aft (opposite to the docking...

Problem I can't Go Play in Space because I can't control my craft.

I had for long time a notebook without a keypad. This did not stop me from using Orbiter. - Some notebooks can emulate a keypad via the function key. The numbers are shown in blue letters. - Later I bought me a joystick and programmed its keys for the most used functions (like switching the...

There is a website where Normal maps can be created from the basic picture. NormalMap-Online You maybe want to turn down the 'strength' a bit, so it is not too bumpy.

API Question Developing for Orbiter 2024?

I am still using the 2016 API without problems, to retrain backwards compatibilty. Only the initialization of variables seems to be checked more stringent in 2024. If all initializations are done properly, everything works fine.

Project Obsidian - Outer Planets Explorer

In dark nights use head lights! New version Obsidian-02 can be downloaded in the first post. The lander has now a dll. It can land on its touchdown points, but sometimes flips over when changing from freeflight to landed mode. Landing lights can be switched on, the stowed high-gain antenna can...

Project Obsidian - Outer Planets Explorer

Great tip, thank you! The picture above shows a lander incoming to the lava Lake at Io. Unfortunately, the lander spun out of control before touchdown. May have to do how the height above ground is interpreted in Orbiter 2024 vs Orbiter 2010. Will have a loser look into that.
