OSM City Marker for Orbiter 2014-04-22

osm_city_marker.jpg

This is a more or less useless add-on for Orbiter.

In the archive, there are two marker file I created using the openstreetmap API just for fun.
This files contains markers for ~ 7000 Cities.
There is no replacement of the orignal marker file by unzipping this archive.
If you unzip this in your Orbiter folder, you can activate the markers in Orbiter:
To do so, press ctrl + F9, press the “config” button next to "Surface", select "Earth" were you can activate the markers. After, you maybe have to activate the "Planetarium View" by pressing F9.
If you don't want to repeat this steps every time, you can edit the header of the files and set the line "InitialState off" to "InitialState on", so you have just to press F9 in Orbiter. If you prefere to have one of these files as standard, you can set "InitialState on" to "InitialState off" in Orbiters original earth city marker file (Orbiter\Config\Earth\Marker\Cities.mkr).
Note, that there are two alternative files. In the File "Cities_OSM_with_population.mkr", there is also the population of the City in the name (If population is known for the city).
Attention: It's recommended to activate the planetarium view using this files only if you are flying low, because this are really many cities and if you have a global view onto the Planet, the performance of Orbiter can break down a bit. But just Pressing F9 can solve that problem on any time.
But for LEO it's seems to be ok if your PC has a bit performance.
Feel free for use and modify this files, but without any warranty of any kind!
