Hi everyone,
I'm happy to release MediaPlayerMFD 2.0, a multimedia hub that turns any MFD into a full media center. Watch a mission briefing during coast, put on some music for a long burn, tune in to a web radio station, or browse actual YouTube - without ever leaving the cockpit.
What's in the box:
- Local video playback (MP4, WMV, AVI, MKV) with synchronized audio, SRT subtitles, and looping
- Local music playback (MP3, WAV, WMA, AAC, FLAC, OGG) with synchronized lyrics
- Web radio via a simple, user-editable station list
- A genuine embedded YouTube browser (CEF/Chromium): home-page browsing, search, Shorts "doomscroll" mode, and playlists - all keyboard/button driven, no mouse required
- Mixed local playlists (music + video together) and YouTube playlists, with repeat and shuffle
- Four audio-reactive visualizations for music and radio
- A built-in effects chain (3-band EQ, compressor, echo, stereo delay) applied to every audio source
- Volume up to 200% boost, XRSound ambient-group toggles, and full state persistence across view/panel changes
Installation: unzip into your Orbiter root folder, enable the module, and select "Media Player" from the MFD mode menu. Everything is included - the CEF (Chromium) runtime ships in the package, so there is nothing else to download and no version hunting. If you don't care about YouTube, you can delete the CEF folder and save ~300 MB; everything else works the same.
A full manual (PDF) is included, covering every feature, the file formats, and a troubleshooting section. One quirk worth knowing up front: because the module embeds a real browser engine, disabling it from the Launchpad's Modules tab takes effect the next time Orbiter starts - that's intentional, and the manual explains why.
MediaPlayerMFD is MIT-licensed and the complete source code is included in the package. CEF/Chromium are redistributed under their BSD-style licenses (license file included).
A special thank-you to misha.physics and gattispilot for their extensive testing and bug reports throughout development - this release is meaningfully better for their time and attention.
Feedback, bug reports, and feature requests are very welcome. Enjoy!
