For Dan Steph's UMMU addon, shouldn't you be able to take off your helmet on Earth?

You should also have capabilities to take it off in space and other planets and possible death when you take it off!

if you took it off in space it would just be suicide... like ejecting late into a reentery burn.

Actually, I believe I read somewhere (probably in this thread on Dan's forum; I'm not going to bother to actually search for the reference within the thread) that the next version of UMMu will likely have removable helmets.

Before folks go start bugging Dan to get started on the project, though, remember he's still got to finish up the beta testing of FSPAX-X and release that so he can put some bread on his table. Also, depending on when Orbiter 2008/2009/2010/whatever gets released (or even before it gets released), I'd think he'd want to take a bit of time update OrbiterSound to be compatible with the new version of Orbiter. (But then I really can't speak for Dan, so who knows...)

Can't wait myself for next versions. :)

Maybe you could have helmet failure?

But it is possible to take it off in space, so it would be added realism.

On Earth you get out of the DGIV and you're still wearing a helmet.

the helmet faliure is a good idea, maybe, if the next version has collision detection, you could smash your visor on an EVA! or if u walk around on venus your visor implodes with the pressure, as it is atm ive walked on the surface of venus and lived!

Yeah good idea.

Does anyone have anymore suggestions/ideas for the next UMMU version?

EBP

how about just in case you have to eject, in space when you eject from any spaceship but in this case the DGIV incase you miss or can't reach the turbo pack the Ummu have an EBP, Emergency Booster pack, which has a small rocket booster on the front and back to let the Ummu be more mobile when ejected from a spacecraft and an auxilary Oxygen tank which has enough oxygen to last another 4-6 hours and has an ajustable oxygen release valve which lets you change how much Oxygen is released per minute.
:)

Make them walk... maybe a bit too much asked for currently. If somebody would write a converter to translate Max animation data into orbiter and pass it over to Dan he'd probably implement it. I just don't know anything about programming in connection with graphics... :(

Also somehow "see" the airlock shape or be able to tell how far from the airlock

Yeah, I think a walking animation, or even a "moon jump" animation would be cool to implement! Also a way to where when they're on the earth's surface they could take off the helmets. It always looks weird to me.

Off topic:
Um, I'm new here but wouldn't things like this go in the addon requests, or addon support. Not that I'm targeting a specific thread, but I can't find that many threads that are actually for addon's in this category. I just find it hard to understand what addons have been made when everybody in this category is asking for help.

Am I mistaken and the Orbiter Addons -> Addons Category just for general addon discussion?

You are correct Sherrif, this should be in the 'Addon Request' forum, some people don't bother to read the forum descriptions before posting a thread. Thread moved.

I think MMU's should have multiple skins for the suits.

Are the UMMU skins for download?

If I'm not mistaken, the default UMMU-Mesh comes with a default of 6 different skins. It also is not a big deal using your own meshes with it if you don't like the ones provided.

Dang it is hard to get to the turbopacks in space, so i think the pack should be built in to the suit.

Keep practicing, you'll get the hang of it.

I use the UMmu on a regular basis to grab a "fuel" container from the DGIV cargo hold and carry it to the nosecone for refueling (to me using the docking autopilot feels like cheating, but that's just me). I EVA, fly back and pick up the turbopack, then head to the cargo bay to get the container and fly it to the nose. Takes a while to get to the pack and also back into the ship after you stow it away, but I think it gives a more realistic feel.

I do however agree that the UMmu itself should have a bit more power in the thrusters.

I'd say have a another airlock near the cargo bay/turbo packs. (of course thats not a UMmu request more as a DGV request)

The thrusters should be stronger, and perhaps a docking auto... and null relative speed autos like the DGIV.

An Auto I would like is the satellite setup, so I don't have to memorize seemingly random numbers.

How do you move the cargo containers with a UMMU? It always ends up rotating when I use translation thrusters because of the shifter centre of gravity.
