Project Gemini module for Orbiter2024

Some progress on the pilot and commander panel. Note that textures are not definitive since blender shader cant't translate into game shader. A big pass of UV unwrapping will follow, but as you can imagine, i am a bit reluctant to do that.

Belive it or not, but i spent 5 hours finding what label was "FDI" below "ion sensor" It is a gemini X and XII experiment and i didn't find any pictures or chart precise enough to be readable. But at last i found a lost pdf on the nasa sever describing the procedures linked with the experiment D010, just befor i gave up. 95 % research 5% displacing points in blender...
The commander and pilot panels are near completion ! Next, I will focus on the central main panel.

Hi! I've been thinking about Gemini in Orbiter for a month or so now. Obviously you're farther along then I probably would ever be by myself, so I'm watching with interest. I don't really know much about blender or C++, but I know quite a lot about the Gemini systems so if you ever want help with those I can provide documents!

Hi, yes if you have any documents of value, it would really help the project, especially if these are not NASA documents from the NTRS or mission reports. Obviously the best would be having McDonnell blueprints but i think that's in my dreams !

By the way, i had the opportunity to visit the science museum in Los Angeles a few years ago, and i regret not taking more pics for reference! (But the nasty plexiglass had bad reflections...)

Thanks for the reply! Yeah NTRS has some documents on Gemini, but there are a decent number stockpiled on the Virtual AGC site https://www.ibiblio.org/apollo/. Mostly under the mission specific documents sections of the library - it is of course focused on Apollo but has a large pile of Gemini stuff too. Some things to check out would be the Spacecraft Familiarization Manual and the Gemini Operations Handbook section on the onboard computer. Both have some pretty good logic diagrams and descriptions.

@lift-off You might also look at the Purdue Neil Armstrong papers collection, there is a ton of Gemini stuff in there. A lot of it isn’t scanned though so you’d have to request scans of it. If you have any issues, I’ve gotten documents scanned for the NASSP devs from this collection before and would be happy to help! Project looks amazing so far, 11/10!

Thanks Max-Q ! I've encountered this website but since I need to request documents i never went further. Any help with documentation about gemini would be helpful if you have some and can legally share it.

Happy new year everyone !
Some progress on the lower panel and the water management system :

next I will work on the switch-indicators wich are a little bit difficult to make (with multple baking passes for the normal maps, different illumination colors etc...)

I don't have any documentation from here about Gemini, you have to request scans as you said. However I am a student at Purdue, and have requested scans for the NASSP devs in the past, and I would be happy to get something requested for you if there is something that you think would be of use

Thanks , i'll let you know if I need something !

Hi everyone,

I got some work done on the last three main panels: the side ones and the overhead. I began to think about game implementation and optimization and decided I will do these panels in a game-ready manner. So I made a base texture in Blender for a scratched gray painted metal. Then I made some bolts and boxes to bake an ambient occlusion texture as well as a normal map texture. I also made a velcro texture from geometry. I seems they put it everywhere back then in the capsule, so I will try to render that too.
The result is a nice surface with minimal geometry ! I made these 3 panels together to be able to fill up a maximum of space on the textures. They are 4K, by the way.

Obviously, all the previous panels are not game-ready yet, so it will represent a lot of work to UV unwrap all of that and bake everything properly!

Concerning the buttons, as I understand it, they all need to be a separate mesh group. But my buttons for now consist of a hexagonal base and a switch, so to speak. I think i will have to separate all the bases from the switches to be able to make each switch flippable in the cockpit...

I also began to work on the commander's and pilot's top panels and began to work on the light annunciators. I think i will switch between "off" and "on" states by moving the UV coordinates on the material.

bye
