You know you're addicted to Orbiter when...

When you establish a base on the edge of the solar system that you visit every day.

....when you spend 3 hours (at least) creating a texture for the moon of an asteroid that isn't even bigger then an office building.

....when nothing less then the latest orbital elements for an asteroid/planet/dwarf planet will do.

....when you spend almost as long as NASA does in real-life designing a probe. (I'm not kidding either, my Io Orbiter mission was in design for at least 3 years before I decided it was finished and I flew it).

...when the silly joke thread is not enough to express how addicted you are, so you come back to this thread...

...when you say Xena and Gabrielle and they do not bring the picture of sexy TV characters to your mind, but the picture of an alien place to visit.

...when you thought space was empty before knowing it was filled with debris, and you wonder if anyone is going to add all the existing sats and debris to Orbiter some day.

...when you develop your computer science skills as you do stuff for orbinauts.

IS anyone going to model a debris cloud? I'd really appreciate the prospect of colliding with a bolt at 15km/s and exploding. 'Cause that's how addicted to Orbiter I am. :shifty:

There are plenty of debris...

Do you want to see all objects around Earth with Google Earth?
1.Download this file: http://adn.agi.com/SatelliteDatabase/SatelliteDatabase.kmz
2.Double click on the file and it will install a Google Earth addon.

It displays:
1.Active satelites
2.Inactive satellites
3.Debris
4.Rocket bodies.

You will notice that active satellites are a minority.
Modelling space junk collectors in Orbiter could be fun for orbinauts...

... When you wish the digitizing laser from TRON was real, so that you could rez yourself into the Orbiterverse, pick up a DG and make those pesky Recognizers eat your exhaust fumes.

and none of my friends cared at all. I really wish they could get into Orbiter.
Orbiter is way off people's experience. It is just like mining could be for most of us.

You are addicted to Orbiter when you try to learn math of Orbiter instead of learning math to make money with derivatives in Wall Street. In the end, money is a social construct, instead, Orbiter is real...

Love it!!!

I caught my daughter (learning to drive) making the "Boom! click...click...click...click" noises as she finally successfully backed into a parking space. I laughed so hard I couldn't breathe for a few minutes.

Parents can teach Orbiter to their kids...

When in your calculus2 class learning about Taylor and Maclaurin series, your first thought for an application of the Mac. series of Sin and Cos, is your engine-gimbal code for Orbiter!

When having trouble un-capping a large bottle of water reminds you of troubles of STS-131 crew with the ammonia tank screws.

Ok today after my computer programing class (I'm learning C++) where the teacher was talking about graphics, I went up to him and asked him if he ever heard of Orbiter. I showed him Orbiter's web site and he said he would look at it and that it looked interesting. So when I was out side the class room waiting for the car pool I see, because the projector is still on projecting whatever he is doing on a big screen, he is still looking at the site, then he starts an email with sentences like this: Check out this program I found for teaching physics. Or: It could be used to teach C++.

I tried not to look but it was so funny. Not 3 minutes after I showed him Orbiter was he emailing the physics teacher about Orbiter.

When you find yourself playing a flight simulator and wishing you could "Velcro" a couple of SRBs onto a Dehavilland DHC-6 Twin engine prop plane so you could go from the west coast to the east coast more quickly.

When...
No matter what 3D model you find for a totally separate project, you just have to whip up a quick and nasty Spacecraft3 to see how it would look in orbit.

interesting

That's cool. I think everyone should download and use Orbiter.

When you have teasers from addon development threads as your wallpaper.
