Hi All,
(might have posted this in the wrong section)

i stumled upon something interesting while trying to work on my Star trek universe. Actually this is already around for years but i was wondering if someone had any idea how to get rid of this.

i use meshes to replicate (stars) and what happens is when i have for example to Stars orbiting close to each other the meshes Collide like seen in below picture

Here are both of them next to each other. One is significantly larger then the other one.

once you move the view you will see that in this next screenshot the Meshes collide with each other which is what i would not like to happen to them..

Does anyone have any idea why this happens and or if this is a limitation off the Orbiter Engine?
i have tested this in the new Orbiter 2024 but this issue was also there in earlier versions of the game

Thanks!

Probably I can't help, but I didn't understand your question, namely I don't see any strange on your screenshots. So:

What's wrong? Or what behavior do you expect/want to get?

The meshes Colide into each other. but i expect them to overlay like its just something in front of it, now its like the meshes combine

Ahh, so the meshes appear to be in the wrong position, based on where the camera position?

Yes there's a trick due to zbuffer precision, the planets are rendered closer and smaller than they really are. Maybe there are some corner cases where this causes this kind of issue.

its a bit difficult to explain actually but basically view the spheres as planets but then using a mesh instead of the normal Orbiter planet textures and atmosphere.

now these 2 meshes should act the same as that 2 planets would. if you view for example Europa in front of Jupiter you would see that Europa is rendered nicely in front of Jupiter as seen in below picture.

Now if i take a look at the 2 plants with Meshes so they look like Stars they look to collide into each other

so i made the texture to look Red as that makes it a bit easier to see the difference between the 2.
so Distance is 15.52G.

Big Yellow Planet Size = 10.53992e10
Red Planet Size = 601607500
so its significantly smaller then the yellow one

now im zooming in to 1.530G Distance and the following happens.
they start to collide like and dissapear into each other.

When im zooming out the effect is opposite as it dissapears into the big Yellow planet
