What do you do in Orbiter?

I do these things mainly:

1) LEO flights with Shuttle Fleet to ISS.

2) Easy LEO flights to ISS with DGIV

3) Experimental flights with DGIV

4) NASSP as realistically as possible

What limits me a bit is that I'm a bit of a "purist" when it comes to simulators, so I never accelerate time. That means that all flights take me quite some time so I don't normally go beyond LEO. My longest flight was 14.5 days, but since I couldn't keep the simulation running at all times, it took me several months to complete.

Thats the way I do too,
Realism and logic accuracy is my main concern...

Currently I'm working on creating and organizing scenarios for my favorite addons. Most of the stuff you download on orbithanger comes with a handful of random scenarios that are all jumbled up. I like to take them, modify them, and make a sort of chronological storyline. I may even post some of these scenario packs on orbithanger one day...

I'm quite the Earthling as I rarely leave home! I mostly fool around with Energia launches with many types of payloads into LEO. I also like doing atmospheric flights with DG's and planes (Including bombing missions with them) and love shooting ICBM's and other ballistic missiles at targets always trying to score a bullseye! On rare occasions I'll do ISS dockings but I need more practice. And maybe once or twice I've been to the moon without any real cheating.

My favourite things to do in Orbiter are -

Station building. I've assembled a simple European station using the various modules from the contributers at Mustard's site, and launch them with Ariane 5 & 6. I also enjoy building stations using only the DGex (I love that ship!). Mainly because it's completely reusable, it's graceful in it's leasurely ascent, and I get to practice accurate runway landings. DGIV is fun for practicing reentries and landings because it makes sure you do it properly (no cheating!), because if you get it wrong, everyone gets to see a nice "meteor" shower.

My current favourite Orbiter pastime is to get immersed in Sputnik et al's "World of 2001". There's just so much to do! Launching and landing from Station V; passenger and cargo missions to the Moon, Mars, Venus and Mercury; EVAs on the surface or orbit; satellite delivery. I've recently successfully landed the Polaris on those pylons on Phobos.
If you haven't tried WO2001 yet, then WHY NOT! You're missing a treat. :speakcool:

My recent thing is to get the XR1 and fly to Ascension and see if I can break my takeoff-to-landing record of 29 minutes 25 seconds.

I think the only way I can shave that time down any more is to drain out some fuel to make my ship mass lower, which should help out with the acceleration a bit.

I wonder if anybody out there in Orbiter-forum-land can break that time of 29 minutes 25 seconds in the XR1 from KSC to Ascension Wideawake's runway.
:hmm:

A habit of mine is that for every new addon I download, I'll drop it out of orbit and reenter it, just to see what it does. There's something to be said for watching the TFCT Rodger Young scream though the sky, 30 klicks up, creating a huge fireball over the Amazon rain forest. Why isn't there a proper aerodynamic model for every ship? They should be pulling a couple Gs of deceleration screaming through atmosphere like that, and yet the speed barely changes when they're on the deck moving at 6 km/s :P

Otherwise I'm ususally flying the DGIV from the earth to LEO or to the moon. Still need to figure out how to come back from the moon...

I love DGIV, Shuttle fleet and World of 2001.
AMSO is good, but I still need to understand many things about Apollo missions.

However what use to keep me very busy is my offline life lately, and also the making of some tutorials and tools. I believe that I have dedicated more time to modding than to actually fly Orbiter.

I've hopped onto the World of 2001 bandwagon just a few days ago. I'm still trying to find a decent atmospheric autopilot for the supersonic jets...

Hi.

Most of the time, I'm using my 6 firefly jumbos to explore the solar system. I like going to Sedna at 1 million km/s situated at 145 billions km away at its farthest distant in years 8029.

These days, I like going back and forth to moon at 100 km/s in 1 hour and to mars at 10,000 km/s.

I installed new addons as 2003 UL61 and Eris bodies and I'm enroute to discover them at speed light.

Finally, I placed a space station around every of the nine system solar planet, Sedna and Orcus.

Andre.

Same here, although I haven't sampled 2001 yet.

Been working on different stages of AMSO missions lately, practicing different parts until I can do that particular piece properly. Kind of the way I imagine someone would do who was actually prepping for a mission, spending x hours in the command module simulator practicing reentry, spending x hours/days in the lunar module practicing lunar descent, etc.

Also been interested in the Deep Impact mission, and also Mars Phoenix lander. Though I would like to begin flying them manually soon as I get more out of it if I'm not sitting there watching an autopilot do it all for me. I can get that by watching NASA's animation renderings on their website :P

Got a great thrill the first time I flew a complete mission with the Shuttle Fleet. Awesome feeling when Discovery turned into the HAC and the runway was before me. Been wanting to get back to the fleet a lot lately too...

Just a few of the things I do.
