I downloaded Orbiter a few days ago. I have learned so much about physics and orbital mechanics in the last few days, even though I've been playing KSP for nearly a year. Really excited to see where I can go in Orbiter.

I actually first attempted Orbiter circa 2010, but had no clue about orbital mechanics and MFDs were intimidating so it went nowhere. Fast forward to 2013, I discovered KSP and ended up addicted for awhile. The maneuver node system really made orbital maneuvers a tangible, intuitive process, which was a big help to understanding very basic orbital maneuvering. I still hit a steep learning curve upon taking up Orbiter again but I can reach orbit, rendezvous with Mir and ISS, and just brought a delta glider from Runway 33 at KSC to landing pad 3 at Brighton Beach. I have yet to successfully reenter Earth's atmosphere though. Can't wait to go farther. :tiphat:

:welcome: to Orbiter-Forunm, pwnstar.
(Also I find myselft quite addicted to KSP for a bit)

Thanks all!

hi pwnstarr, I used to play KSP as well then moved to playing Orbiter.

I made a similar post reply just yesterday in the greets section about KSP to Orbiter. KSP is easier to get into, but Orbiter has longer lasting appeal.

It's kind of funny how similar our thoughts are (and shared by plenty others based on the threads I've read so far here). But not surprising.

I've been thinking, maybe we could have a section in the Orbiter Forum to discuss KSP... Yes, there is the megathread started by HarvesteR when he did his first public release, but there might be some space for us Orbinauts/Kerbal hybrids to share discussions on mods... For exemple, I've downloaded and tried FAR for the aerodynamics and TAC-LS / MKS/OKS for life support and station building, as well as various mods all the way to KSP Interstellar. I know there is also work on a mod to replace the actual rail physics to something more like Orbiter's orbital mechanics engine.

Reading the official KSP forum I find that Orbinauts crossing over to Kerbal have a different view on things than players who haven't come across Orbiter yet, and put in specific threads what we, Orbiter, find useful for a better KSP experience...

Your situation was the opposite of mine: I learned basic orbital mechanics from Orbiter first, then applied it to KSP.

Me too, only to fail because the planets in KSP has smaller gravity, which on my first KSP flight (May 2014) led me to immediatly get escape velocity on Kerbin

Greetings to All!

Hello everyone! Nice to meet you guys here at OF! Just getting started with Orbiter, so I will be taking suggestions and tutorials to help me get started. Email me some tutorials and/or videos at: [email protected]! Thanks!
